Joe Mixon injury update: Latest on Texans RB for Fantasy Football Week 16

Joe Mixon joined the Houston Texans ahead of the 2024 college football season after spending the first seven years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. Mixon has since made the Houston Texans RB1 spot his own and is currently on track to beat his career highs across most statistical categories.

Let's examine Mixon's availability ahead of the Texans' Week 16 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Joe Mixon's injury update

According to Yahoo Sports, Joe Mixon is dealing with an ankle injury. The Oklahoma Sooners product got hurt after a dangerous tackle from Jordyn Brooks. Mixon was relatively ineffective for the rest of the game.

Hence, it is unsurprising that Mixon started the week on the injury report. He was a limited participant in both Tuesday and Wednesday's training sessions.

Mixon is not the only Houston Texans player dealing with an injury. Defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi (ankle), wide receiver John Metchie III (shoulder), center/guard Juice Scruggs (foot) and tight end Cade Stover (illness) were absent from Wednesday's practice session. The Texans hope that the players mentioned above can feature in some capacity on Thursday.

How has Joe Mixon performed this season?

Joe Mixon has played his part in the Houston Texans playoff push. The veteran running back has proven that his best days aren't behind him with some phenomenal showings in DeMeco Ryans' offense.

Mixon has amassed a stat line of 217 carries, 910 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. He's also added 277 receiving yards and one touchdown in 11 games. Mixon's excellent showings have kept the Texans competitive in games where their passing game wasn't as lethal as expected, with the Sooners' product racking up over 100 rushing yards in all but three games this season.

The 9-5 Houston Texans will hope that Mixon can be fit enough to play in Week 16 against the Baltimore Ravens and help the franchise to a much-needed win. After the Broncos game, the Texans face off against the two-time reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Their last game of the season is against the Tennessee Titans.
