Joe Montana is the first-ever player to be named Super Bowl MVP three times (Super Bowl XVI, XIX, and XXIV). He holds the NFL record for most wins in a Super Bowl without a loss (4). This is a record he shares with Terry Bradshaw. Montana also holds the record for most pass attempts in a Super Bowl without an interception (122). Joe Montana is a successful quarterback having had a great impact for the San Francisco 49ers. With him in the team, the 49ers won four of their five Super Bowls and enjoyed the most successful postseason performances. Joe Montana helped the 49ers reach their first-ever Super Bowl in the 1981 playoffs. He made a signature game-winning touchdown pass in the 1981 NFC Championship game against the Dallas Cowboys, to advance to Super Bowl XVI. He threw one touchdown pass and rushed a touchdown in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The 49ers won the game 26-21 and Montana was honored as the Super Bowl MVP.

His second Super Bowl win in 1985 was against the Miami Dolphins (38-16). Montana grabbed his second NFL MVP award after throwing three touchdown passes and establishing an NFL record for most passing yards in a single game (331).

In his third Super Bowl victory in 1989 (XXIII), Montana faced the Cincinnati Bengals again. In the game, he created a new Super Bowl record for most passing yards (357) and completed 23 of 36 passes. Montana helped the 49ers clinch the victory with an impeccable game-winning touchdown pass to John Taylor with only 34 seconds left on the clock. Montana became the first-ever player to become Super Bowl MVP three times after winning the Super Bowl XXIV in 1990.

He created a then-Super Bowl record of 5 touchdown passes in a game. The 49ers defeated the Denver Broncos with the highest winning margin in Super Bowl history, 55-10.
