Jordan Love is the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers as of September 2024. After being drafted in 2020 and then shadowing the Packers’ former legendary signal caller, Aaron Rodgers, Love finally got the chance to lead the franchise for a full year in 2023 and ran away with the opportunity. In his first full year as a starter, No.10 not only established himself as the starter in Green Bay for the foreseeable future but also brought back the postseason fervour back among the Packers fans. Love’s footballing story has been anything but straightforward and he even considered quitting the game as a teenager since the loss of a dear one was weighing him down.

Born November 2, 1998, in Bakersfield, California, Love grew up with a football in hand. His father was a police officer but also played high school football as a quarterback and it was his dream to see his son make it to the NFL as a quarterback. However, when Love was just 14 years old, he lost his father after he took his own life. Unable to continue playing football after his father’s passing, it was Love’s mother who encouraged him to give it a shot for one more year. T

Jordan Love NFL Draft

Love was selected in the first round with pick number 26 by the Green Bay Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft. This was a highly surprising move to several followers of the game and most importantly Packers’ fans as they still had Aaron Rodgers who had just led the team to an NFC Championship game the previous season.

Moreover, not many were convinced regarding the talent level possessed by the young quarterback from California as he hadn’t exactly set the college world on fire nor did the Packers need a quarterback at the time. However, looking in hindsight after Love's phenomenal 2023 season, it's safe to say the Packers front office made the right decision in 2020.

The 2020 NFL Draft also consists of some notable players such as Joe Burrow, Chase Young, Justin Herbert, Tua Tagovailoa, Jalen Hurts, Justin Jefferson, and many more.

Jordan Love High School

Born and brought up in California, Love attended Liberty High School which is also located in Bakersfield, California. He faced two main issues while playing football for his high school team.

Firstly, he was quite undersized with a height of only 5 feet 6 inches and weighed just 130 lbs. Secondly, he was also the backup quarterback till the midway point of his junior year. That meant that most of the colleges had already sent out scholarship offers to the quarterbacks that they had been scouting. Therefore, Love only received an offer from one FBS school - Utah State.

Jordan Love College

Between Love’s senior year in high school to the start of his freshman year at Utah State, Jordan grew a whopping 8 inches and put on 80 pounds. After redshirting his freshman year, he earned the starting role in the last 6 games of the season.

In 2018, as a sophomore, he kept his starting job and played in all 13 games. Love’s sophomore year was the best one of his college career as he threw for 3,567 yards and 32 touchdowns against just 6 interceptions. He led the team to an 11-2 record and was also named the MVP of the Mexico Bowl game.

Unfortunately, though, 2019 was a down year for Love and his overall performance took a big hit. Love again played all 13 games but the team plummeted to a 7-6 record. Even though he had 3,402 yards, he threw only 20 touchdowns to 17 interceptions. Despite a terrible year, Love decided to forgo his remaining year of eligibility and enter the 2020 NFL Draft.
