In the 2023 off-season, the Packers traded away one of the best quarterbacks of all time in Aaron Rodgers because both Rodgers and the Packers needed a fresh start but also because the team already had a replacement on the roster. The replacement was Jordan Love who was drafted as the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft.
Love sat and waited for his moment for three years before finally getting the starting quarterback job in 2023. In the previous two seasons, Love made only one start and played a total of 10 games. The Packers had a big decision to make when it came to picking up their fifth-year option with Love. Instead, they extended the contract which was a very smart move because if they picked up their option, the Packers would have owed Love $20.27 million fully guaranteed for the 2024 season. The Packers fans were outraged when they drafted Love because they already had an all-time great quarterback so it did not make much sense to draft another QB.
However, if the 2023 season was any indication, it seems that the Packers’ experiment with Love has worked out. The former first-round pick went on to pass for 32 touchdowns while simultaneously taking Green Bay to the divisional round in his first-ever season starting under center. His last 8 starts where he threw for 18 touchdowns to only 1 interception along with his amazing performance in the wild-card round against the Cowboys has made the future of Green and Gold look promising for the foreseeable future even with the departure of A-Rod.
Jordan Love’s 40 time
During the NFL Combine, Love ran the 40-yard dash at 4.74 seconds officially whereas he ran an unofficial 40-yard dash at 4.65 seconds. His 4.74 seconds was the seventh-best at the combine. When it came to his vertical, Love jumped as high as 35.5 inches tying him for the second spot amongst his peers.
Love’s broad jump was very impressive and was ranked fourth overall with 118". He had an excellent combine and was ranked quite high amongst his peers.
