Josh Jacobs had big shoes to fill for the Packers when he replaced Aaron Jones in their offensive backfield but by the time they faced the Dolphins in Week 13, he had ingratiated himself with the Lambeau faithful. Green Bay entered this game against Miami in freezing conditions knowing that a win would put them level for the number of wins with the Vikings, Jones' current team, in the NFC North.

The division is setting up to be one of the best in the league with Detroit and Minnesota fighting for the top spot in the conference, along with the Packers. They knew they were up against it against a Dolphins team that had won its last three matches and was coming to the 'frozen tundra' with momentum on their side.

They knew they had to be flawless on offense, defense, and special teams to come out with a victory, especially with a matchup against the Lions coming up in Week 14. Josh Jacobs certainly had a critical role to play in that equation and this is how he fared on Thursday night.

Josh Jacobs' stats tonight vs Dolphins

The Dolphins began strongly on the defensive side of the ball as they stopped Josh Jacobs on the first carry of the game. After a three-and-out, Miami's special teams messed up as the punt returner dropped the ball to set up a first-and-goal.

The Packers did not need a second invitation as their running back picked up yards to make it second-and-short before Jordan Love decided to throw the ball to Jayden Reed and pick up the first touchdown of the game on their third attempt.

If Josh Jacobs' first carry eventually yielded a score for a receiver, on the next drive he got in the endzone himself. The running back was handed the ball twice once Green Bay set up a first-and-goal and he initially picked up six yards before punching into the endzone on the second down.

While the Dolphins could not figure out Josh Jacobs on the first couple of drives, they did seem to get more of a handle on him in the second quarter as they forced the Packers to punt for the first time. However, he continued to attract enough attention to let others go free as Jayden Reed scored his second touchdown before halftime.

The second half was more muted for Green Bay and one of the reasons was that Miami made sure to stuff the box and stop Josh Jacobs from picking up yards on the ground. But Matt LaFleur decided that the way to unleash the running back was to make him a wide receiver.

There were a couple of long pickups on throws from Jordan Love, with the highlight being a 49-yard reception. It was the longest of his career and it allowed the Packers to score a field goal at the end of the drive and keep the scoreboard ticking.

That was the story of the second half as the Dolphins limited their opposition on the ground and the red zone but allowed players like Josh Jacobs and others to pick up receiving yards in the middle of the field.

At the end of the day, the running back finished with more receiving yards than running yards. Overall, he recorded more than 100 yards from the line of scrimmage while also recording a touchdown.
