Just three years into the league, Jonathan Taylor has established himself as a top-tier running back. His success is definitely not an overnight transition as he has worked tirelessly since he was a small kid. The roots of his future success were planted back in his high school and college years where he achieved tremendous success then as well.
Taylor has also put immense work on his body and it is making a big difference on the turf as he can power his way through. In addition to his strength, he has a great ability to make defenses miss tackles with his quick footwork. Playing for the Indianapolis Colts, he has quickly become one of their stars as the team as a whole has struggled as of late.
Being a rusher known for his blocking skills as well, the one knock on his game was the fact that he wasn’t as good at catching the ball. However, Taylor has worked on this aspect of his game immensely showing obvious improvement and ironing out his flaws.
Jonathan Taylor’s injury
In 2022, Jonathan Taylor suffered a high ankle sprain in week 15 forcing him to end his season early and miss the remaining three games. He had earlier suffered another ankle injury in week 4 of the season and was in and out of the team on multiple occasions.
Along with the injury recovery process that Taylor is undergoing there seems to be a dispute going on with the star running back and the Colts franchise reading a trade. Apparently, Taylor is looking to get traded while the Colts organization is refusing to give in.
As a result of which there has been a growing tension regarding this specific situation. Taylor had opted to rehab his ankle injury away from the team, but the Colts insisted he return to their camp. A rumor broke out that since Taylor did not want to train with the team, he told the organization that he had back and hamstring pain along with his ankle injury adding more concern to the management.
When confronted, Taylor has denied ever complaining about any back pain and thus things from the Colts camp are not crystal clear as of yet. Whether Taylor will get back to the field by the season opener, whether he will remain with the Colts, or whether he will get traded are all questions that require answers sooner rather than later.

Jonathan Taylor in college
Stepping up one level in college didn’t make any difference as he continued his domination over his three years with the Wisconsin Bears football team at the University of Wisconsin. Narrowly missing out on a 2,000-yard season in his freshman year by 23 yards, Taylor crossed the mark in both his sophomore as well as junior years. Ending with a total of 6,174 total rushing yards, he became the first running back in NCAA history to cross 6,000 rushing yards in any three year span.
By the end of his college career, he finished in the top 10 of the Heisman Trophy voting all three years and was declared a unanimous All-American in 2018 and 2019.
Jonathan Taylor in the NFL
Taylor’s form for the Colts has been as good as his early days. Getting off the blocks straight away, he made significant contributions to the team’s overall offense in his rookie year playing 15 games and crossing 1,000 yards in the 2020 season.
2021 was even better as he played all 17 games and led the league in total rushing yards with 1,811 and rushing touchdowns with 18. Unfortunately, his third year in the league was marred by injuries and he could only play 11 games limiting his impact to a certain degree.
