Justin Fields 2023 season outlook: Can the Bears QB throw for 4,000 yards next season?

Chicago Bears v Dallas Cowboys
Justin Fields 2023 season outlook

Justin Fields' faith as the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback was in doubt after a disappointing 2022 season. However, after the franchise traded down from the No. 1 pick with the Carolina Panthers, it's certain the Bears are betting their future on the quarterback.

The Ohio State Buckeyes alum has been the Bears' top-choice quarterback since he was drafted in 2021. He has shown glimpses of brilliance with his dual-threat ability. Due to several factors, however, Fields has not been able to fulfill his potential in the NFL.

With statistical backing, a number of analysts believe Justin Fields' efforts are being sabotaged by the poor offense of the Bears. The Bears' management has done everything lately to improve the offense, especially in the wide receiver department. In essence, can Justin Fields prove his doubters wrong and throw for 4,000 yards next season?

Chicago Bears Passing Yardage Records

No quarterback in the history of the Chicago Bears has been able to throw for 4,000 yards in a season. This figure is pretty much an exclusive list; only 50 quarterbacks have achieved the feat in the history of the NFL, doing it on a combined 130 occasions.

Erik Kramer currently holds the record for the most passing yards in a season by a Bears quarterback. The 1987 undrafted player threw for 3,838 yards in 1995, breaking Billy Wade's record of 3,172 yards in 1962. Only Jay Cutler came close to Kramer with 3,812 yards in 2014.

The Bears haven't had many quarterbacks with 3,000-yard passing seasons. Only six quarterbacks have recorded the feat with the franchise, doing it on 12 different occasions. Jay Cutler boasts as the quarterback with the most, achieving it in four different seasons.

The Possibility of 4,000 passing yards for Justin Fields

Justin Fields is a highly talented quarterback with a lot to offer. His skills have been evident since his days with the Ohio State Buckeyes football program. However, given the current situation, can he pull off 4,000 yards for the Bears next season?

Unlike last season, he now has a brilliant team of receivers, which includes DJ Moore. The Bears got the elite wide receiver from the Panthers in the trade deal for the 2023 draft No. 1 pick. With players like him, there's loads of help for the QB next season.

The Bears are currently one of the four teams in the NFL with three wide receivers on their roster to have had 850+ receiving yards in a season. This is definitely a huge boost for the shot-caller, and breaking his team’s passing yards record next season won’t be out of reach. Recording 4,000+ passing yards, coupled with 1,000+ rushing yards next season, will definitely be golden.
