Justin Herbert's availability to play for the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 was uncertain, but he eventually started against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Unfortunately, the pre-existing high ankle sprain injury worsened, making it very hard for him to continue playing.

Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the Chargers, stated he had no new information regarding the quarterback's injuries following the team's loss to the Steelers on Sunday. Additionally, he stated that he already planned to remove Herbert from the game if he showed any indications of worsening his ankle injury.

"As soon as I saw Justin got up – first sign of any limp, he was coming out of the game," Harbaugh stated. "I took him out.”

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the 26-year-old quarterback will continue to be monitored this week as the results of X-rays on his ankle injury were negative. It will be important to keep an eye on Herbert's injury status because it could have a serious impact on the Chargers' offense and future prospects this season.

Justin Herbert injury update: What happened to the Los Angeles Chargers' QB?

Justin Herbert sustained a high-ankle injury in the Los Angeles Chargers' Week 2 win over the Carolina Panthers and his status was listed as questionable to play in Week 3. However, after completing warmups without any problems, he was cleared to play.

Herbert played until the middle of the third quarter before leaving the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a hit that re-aggravated his already troublesome ankle condition.

After taking that hit, Herbert was seen hobbling to the sidelines. He was checked out in the medical tent and then returned to the bench without his helmet. He was unable to return to the game.

The quarterback claims that shortly before being sacked by linebacker Elandon Roberts in the third quarter, he was hit by defensive tackle Cam Heyward, which aggravated the injury.

After the game, Herbert was seen wearing a walking boot. He claimed that while his ankle injury felt fine before the game, it became more painful after attempting to play on it. The Chargers ultimately suffered a 20-10 defeat.

With the Los Angeles Chargers expected to provide more information as the week goes on, it will be interesting to see how Herbert's injury situation plays out before Week 4.
