Justin Herbert limped off against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 after the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback appeared to reaggravate a previous ankle injury that he picked up in Los Angeles' Week 2 win against the Panthers. Having soldiered on after the initial injury, the impact in the last game was immediate as he had to leave the field and failed to return. Backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke came in to relieve him.

He was taken to the blue tent before being taken to the locker room for an X-ray. Luckily for Chargers fans and fantasy football managers who own him, Justin Herbert returned a negative. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said that he would be monitored during the week.

With gameday against the Kansas City Chiefs coming up in Week 4, here are the latest updates and what it means for whether the starter will feature in the intra-divisional matchup against Kansas City.

Week 4 update on Chargers QB Justin Herbert

In the final injury report, Herbert was shown to be limited in practice on Friday. Based on that, he has been marked as questionable for the game.

For fantasy football managers, there are a couple of things that might want to consider. A few things could suggest that the Chargers would want him on the pitch in Week 4. Firstly, Los Angeles is 2-1 for the season and trailing Kansas City, who has a record of 3-0, by a single game.

The Chiefs lead the AFC West and Justin Herbert playing would increase the chances of both franchises finishing level with a 3-1 record after Week 4.

Secondly, he is the starting quarterback and he did practice, even though he was limited, and the X-rays have shown no rupture. After his initial injury in Week 2, he returned for Week 3, which illustrates that he has previously worked with a short turnaround.

On the other hand, fantasy football managers might need to consider that coming back early aggravated his injury and they might not want to risk him for this game after impact on the same area in successive weeks. The Chargers have an early bye coming up in Week 5. Therefore, after their game against the Chiefs, they do not take to the field until Week 6.

That could be enough time for them to bench Justin Herbert and allow the area to fully heal so that he can get the rest he needs and come back stronger for the rest of the season as Los Angeles looks to target the playoffs.

Hence, there is no certainty that Justin Herbert will take to the field for the Chargers against the Chiefs in Week 4 and there are legitimate courses of action that could see him either benched or made to start. Given the overall lack of clarity surrounding his fitness, fantasy football managers should consider all circumstances before starting him.
