Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers are coming off a disappointing season. The star quarterback fractured his right index finger, resulting in him missing four games while the team finished 5-12.

The Chargers fired head coach Brandon Staley and brought in Jim Harbaugh as his replacement. The fans were looking forward to see Harbaugh with Herbert, but unfortunately, the quarterback has recently suffered another injury in training camp.

As per reports, Justin Herbert is diagnosed with an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot. Senior NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed that the Chargers quarterback will be in a boot for at least two weeks.

The injury is not considered to be that serious; however, Herbert will have to go through a whole process to get back on the field. His long-term health is crucial for the team's success, and the franchise will not rush him back if he is not ready.

Ian Rapoport indicated that Justin Herbert will be ready in time to play in Week 1. The Chargers will take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 8, and the Oregon product should be fully healthy by then.

Due to this injury, Herbert is unlikely to play in any preseason games for the Chargers. The AFC West franchise is scheduled to face these teams in the preseason this year:

  1. Seattle Seahawks
  2. Los Angeles Chargers
  3. Dallas Cowboys

Justin Herbert's injury history

Justin Herbert has not been an injury-prone quarterback. Last season was the first instance that he missed games due to an injury in the NFL, and he is a reliable player when it comes to health.

So far, Herbert has suffered these injuries since getting drafted by the Chargers in 2020:

  1. Chest Rib Fracture - 2022; Didn't miss a single game.
  2. Shoulder Labrum tear - 2023; Had surgery after the season finished.
  3. Fracture in left middle finger - 2023; Didn't miss a single game.
  4. Fracture in right index finger - 2023; Had season-ending surgery and missed four games.
  5. Injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot - 2024; Unlikely to miss any game.

In Herbert's absence, Jim Harbaugh will give opportunities to Easton Stick, Max Duggan, and Casey Bauman in the preseason.
