The way the Kansas City Chiefs' 3-peat dream was crushed left a sour taste among the fanbase and players. However, the silver lining to come out of that is that the last time Andy Reid’s squad was rag-dolled this bad in the Super Bowl, Brett Veach went out and formed a wall in front of Patrick Mahomes, which got them two more Lombardi Trophies.
The Chiefs' GM might have somewhat solved the left tackle issue by signing Jaylen Moore in free agency, but sending Joe Thuney to Chicago in a trade has created a couple of big holes on that 0-line. While Patrick Mahomes will always give them a chance, a stout line in front of him certainly helps the Chiefs remain favorites in the AFC going forward.
What are Kansas City Chiefs' biggest needs in the 2025 NFL Draft?
The Chiefs have many positions that they can address, like adding depth on the defensive line, running backs, etc, but their single biggest need is in the interior, especially left guard, where Kingsley Sumatia and Mike Caliendo are top two options pre draft, as per Kansas City Chiefs depth chart on ESPN. With Travis Kelce showing signs of regression, it wouldn’t be completely out of the picture for Kansas City to get a succession plan at the tight end position if Noah Gray isn’t “the guy” in the eyes of Kansas City moving forward.
#4 Wide Receivers/Tight End
Kansas City didn’t have a single receiving threat in 2024 who got anywhere near 1k yards. While Noah Gray has certainly improved each year while getting more snaps as a starter, Brett Veach would have no problem moving up if either of Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland falls into the 20s. Kansas City also invited tight end Harold Fannin Jr. during a pre-draft visit, as per Yahoo Sports. The class also boasts of Tetairoa McMillan, Matthew Golden, Emeka Egbuka, Luther Burden III, Epic Ayomanor, and Jayden Higgins at the wide receiving position.
#3 Running Backs
As is the case with the receiving room, the same goes for the Kansas City Chiefs' backfield. Except for Kareem Hunt, not a single Chiefs running back eclipsed the 400-yard mark, mainly due to Isiah Pacheco suffering from an injury. However, heading into 2025, Pacheco is in the last season of his rookie contract, and with no long-term signing in sight, it’s possible Kansas City finds his replacement in the draft.
#2 Cornerbacks
While they are set on the outside with newly acquired Kristian Fulton and Trent McDuffie, the depth pieces behind them in Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams are heading into their final year of their contract.
#1 Offensive lineman
The 4-time Super Bowl champion invited multiple offensive linemen during their pre-draft visits, such as Anthony Belton, Mose Vavao, Esa Pole, Bryce Cabeldue, Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan, Caleb Etienne, Aireontae Ersery, and Dalton Cooper (via Sports Illustrated report on April 13th, 2025). It certainly shows where the Chiefs' interests lie while heading to Green Bay.
