The Kansas City Chiefs will lock horns with the Cincinnati Bengals in their AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. However, there has been plenty of speculation about the hosts' starting quarterback ahead of the matchup.
Nonetheless, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed to reporters on Friday that Mahomes will start at quarterback this weekend. The 27-year-old suffered a high ankle sprain in the Divisional Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last weekend.
He withdrew towards the end of the game and was replaced by the Chiefs' backup quarterback, Chad Henne. The NFL veteran impressed in his short stint on the field as he threw five passes for 23 yards and one touchdown.
Henne's impressive outing against Jacksonville led fans to believe that he may start in place of the injured Mahomes for the AFC Championship game. However, Mahomes trained with the team during the week and is listed as active for the clash against the Bengals on Sunday.

How did the Kansas City Chiefs reach the AFC Championship this season?
The Kansas City Chiefs had an excellent run in the regular season. Andy Reid's side finished with a 13-4 record, winning their divisional title and also topping the overall AFC standings.
Due to their No.1 seed, the Chiefs received a first-round bye in the postseason. Patrick Mahomes and co. played their first game of the playoffs last weekend and took down the Jaguars in the Divisional Round game, winning 27-20.
They will now face the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game for the second time in a row. Last season, it was the Bengals who prevailed but the Chiefs will be favorites heading into this contest with Mahomes available.
Interestingly, Mahomes has never got the better of Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow. The Bengals star has a 3-0 record in head-to-head games against Mahomes.
