The Chiefs and Raiders came into this game at opposite ends of the AFC West table. This game has ceased to be a meaningful rivalry ever since Patrick Mahomes has come into the league, as Kansas City has gone about establishing a dynasty. Las Vegas, meanwhile, has struggled to often make the playoffs and has had a rotating cast at coach and quarterback positions.
The Chiefs were 6-0 coming into Week 8. They are the only team with a perfect record left in the NFL. Their defense has been exceptional this season. One concern that they had was their injuries on offense and they added DeAndre Hopkins prior to this game to assist in that regard.
The Raiders were 5-2 entering this week. They are bottom of the AFC West and have fallen behind both the Broncos and the Chargers, who have a rookie quarterback and a new head coach respectively. They have lost Davante Adams to the Jets and were the underdogs going into this match. This is how the action unfolded.

Chiefs vs. Raiders game summary
The Chiefs and the Raiders played out a fascinating game but at the end of it all, fans were left with a familiar feeling as Kansas City won yet again.
The first half was an absorbing contest where both teams opened their first drives with a touchdown. The Chiefs had the ball first and took the ball down 70 yards with Kareem Hunt scoring with a short rush to the endzone. The Raiders responded in kind with Gardner Minshew perfect on his throws, with the final touchdown pass nestling in the hands of Jakobi Meyers.
The second quarter began with Las Vegas in ascendance as they got a field goal to go up 10-3 after Kansas City punted in their previous possession. However, the Chiefs can never be counted out and they responded with a scoring drive of their own, with Patrick Mahomes finding Travis Kelce in the endzone for the first time this season.
After the Raiders were forced to punt again, the Chiefs went up the other end to score a field goal near the end of the half. Kansas City went into the locker rooms with a 17-10 lead, with the match finely poised as Las Vegas was due to receive the kickoff in the second half.
When they did, the Raiders could not do much and had to punt it away to open the third quarter. Their defense came up clutch, though, and forced the Chiefs to punt too. The return set up a field goal that made the score 17-13 against the home team. In the next play, Las Vegas' defense nearly got two safeties as Kansas City's offense held them on consecutive plays near the goal line. They finally got through when Patrick Mahomes was intercepted to set up a Raiders' first-and-goal.
The Chiefs' defense, however, was not to be intimated and they held their opposition on three consecutive rushes before turning the ball over on downs by sacking Gardner Minshew after Las Vegas elected to go for it on fourth down. That proved to be a pivotal moment as Kansas City went down the other end to score a field goal and take a 20-13 lead.
With this still being a one-score game, the Raiders had a chance to tie it on the next drive if they scored a touchdown. But disaster struck as Gardner Minshew fumbled the ball and the Chiefs recovered. Patrick Mahomes concluded that drive with a touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy.
With the score now 27-13 late in the fourth quarter, the Raiders needed a touchdown and an onside kick to retain possession and try again. They got the first of that done right before the two-minute warning with D.J. Turner catching the pass in the endzone. But the kick attempt failed and the Chiefs got the ball with the Las Vegas out of timeouts. Patrick Mahomes knelt down three times to take Kansas City to a perfect 7-0 record for the 2024 season.
