The Chiefs started the game trying to find the end zone as soon as possible. After a couple of incomplete passes, Matthew Wright took the field for the first time since Spencer Shrader suffered an injury and connected a 25-yard field goal to give his team a 3-0 lead.
Daniel Carlson responded with a 27-yard kick to tie the game a three points. He would have another chance to give the lead to the Raiders, but his attempt was no good.
The Chiefs scored the first touchdown of the game with a six-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes to Justin Watson to complete a 53-yard, seven-play drive.
Matthew Wright missed his second field goal attempt of the day, failing to complete a 59-yard attempt.
After the Raiders lost the balls on downs, the Chiefs extended their lead by 10 points with a 42-yard field goal. Daniel Carlson missed a kick in the following drive while the Chiefs would complete another one. Las Vegas scored its first touchdown of the game with a 33-yard reception from Brock Bowers.
Carlson's extra point cut the lead to six points. Aidan O'Connell found Tre Tucker for a 58-yard touchdown to start the fourth quarter, taking the lead of the game with the extra point. Kansas City responded with another field goal to take the 19-17 lead and give fans a hard-fought end to the game. At 2:21, Daniel Carlson missed another field goal, one that would have given his team a 20-19 advantage.
Aidan O'Connell was leading a potential game-winning drive until a mistake by the center resulted in a fumble. The Chiefs recovered the ball with :11 left on the clock to secure the win.
