The Kansas City Chiefs entered this game against the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football from a position of strength. They were the only team in the AFC without a loss all season and knew that a victory would put them level with the Minnesota Vikings, who are now 5-0 in the NFC.The Saints, though, needed to reboot their season. After two wins that yielded more than 90 points on offense, they came into this game having lost their last two. Both franchises entered this game with different motivations and it was the Chiefs that came out on top against the Saints to close out Week 5.This is how the action went down:Chiefs vs. Saints box scores Quarter1234TotalSaints070613Chiefs7901026Chiefs box scorePassing PlayerC/ATTYDSAVGTDINTRTGPatrick Mahomes#15 28/393318.50186.6Rushing PlayerCARYDSAVGTDLONGKareem Hunt#29 271023.818Patrick Mahomes#15 6223.709Carson Steele#42 5122.408Xavier Worthy#1 13313Team391393.629 Receiving PlayerRECYDSAVGTDLONGTGTSJuJu Smith-Schuster#9 713018.60508Travis Kelce#87 9707.802110Mecole Hardman#17 4338.30154Noah Gray#83 22914.50152Xavier Worthy#1 3258.30186Samaje Perine#34 124240152Kareem Hunt#29 115150151Jody Fortson#89 155051Team2833111.805034 Defense PlayerTOTSOLOSACKSTFLPDQB HTSTDNick Bolton#32 11602020Jaylen Watson#35 5500100Drue Tranquill#23 5300000Trent McDuffie#22 5300100Justin Reid#20 4300000Chamarri Conner#27 3200010Tershawn Wharton#98 3111010Bryan Cook#6 2200200Nazeeh Johnson#13 2100000Chris Jones#95 2000000Mike Danna#51 2000010Joe Thuney#62 1100000Cole Christiansen#48 1100000Jack Cochrane#43 1100000Cam Jones#44 1100000Leo Chenal#54 1100000Mike Pennel Jr.#69 1000000George Karlaftis#56 1000020Felix Anudike-Uzomah#97 0000010Team513113490 Kicking PlayerFGPCTLONGXPPTSHarrison Butker#7 "4/5"8038"2/2"14Saints box scorePassing PlayerC/ATTYDSAVGTDINTRTGDerek Carr#4 18/281655.92189.1Jake Haener#3 "2/7"172.40039.6Team20/351745.22178.5 Rushing PlayerCARYDSAVGTDLONGAlvin Kamara#41 11262.409Jake Haener#3 2115.509Jamaal Williams#21 294.509Team15463.109 Receiving PlayerRECYDSAVGTDLONGTGTSRashid Shaheed#22 48621.51439Alvin Kamara#41 6406.70148Juwan Johnson#83 5316.20115Foster Moreau#87 2136.5172Chris Olave#12 2105064Mason Tipton#84 122024Team201829.124332 Defense PlayerTOTSOLOSACKSTFLPDQB HTSTDDemario Davis#56 11500000Anfernee Orji#58 10700000Johnathan Abram#24 8600000Khalen Saunders#50 7200100Carl Granderson#96 7200000Tyrann Mathieu#32 6200000Marshon Lattimore#23 5400000Alontae Taylor#1 5402000Paulson Adebo#29 4400110Bryan Bresee#90 4311020D'Marco Jackson#52 4300000Isaiah Foskey#55 4200000Chase Young#99 3211020Nathan Shepherd#93 3100000Cameron Jordan#94 2100010J.T. Patrick Mahomes then got to work and took them 78 yards on a drive that led to a rushing touchdown by Kareem Hunt. The defenses then took over, forcing a couple of punts from both teams. But then the Chiefs got into field goal range, which allowed Harrison Butker to convert and give them a 10-0 lead.A deep throw by Derek Carr to Rashid Shaheed brought some respite for the Saints as the touchdown made the score 10-7. But Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to two more drives that yielded field goals, which allowed them to go into the break ahead 16-7.The Chiefs dominated possession in the third quarter again. Only a missed field goal by Harrison Butker and an interception in the endzone off the hand of JuJu Smith-Schuster prevented the scores from getting out of hand. One might have even thought that such wastefulness would come back to bite the home team when Derek Carr threw a touchdown pass to Foster Moreau. The missed conversion meant that the Saints now trailed 16-13.But they could not make any more headway as it was all Chiefs in the final quarter. They immediately scored a touchdown to respond to the Saints' score in the previous drive to make it 23-13.As New Orleans tried to respond, they turned the ball over on downs twice, with the first leading to an oblique injury for Derek Carr. In between those two attempts, Harrison Butker kicked one more field goal to make the final score 26-13 to Kansas City.Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are now the only undefeated team in the AFC after Week 5 and the only team other than the Vikings who still have a perfect record in the NFL this season.
