The Kansas City Chiefs welcomed a familiar face on Tuesday, signing running back Kareem Hunt after it was confirmed that Isiah Pacheco would miss six to eight weeks with a broken leg. Hunt was drafted by the Chiefs and released in 2018, but he played most recently for the Cleveland Browns.

Here's a closer look at whether he's a good fantasy football option for Week 3.

Should you add Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt in Week 3 fantasy waiver wire?

There are certainly better options in the waiver wire, as Hunt is unlikely to score a lot of fantasy points in Week 3. Carson Steele is the likely starter in Pacheco's absence, and Hunt will take a while to get up to speed.

It's been a long time since he has played for Andy Reid, so familiarity isn't there anymore. The relationship on and off the field will have to be built up again, and he won't be a star in Week 3.

Kareem Hunt's fantasy outlook for 2024 NFL season

Hunt should serve as a RB2 option for the Chiefs in Pacheco's absence but he's not going to take the starter spot. After all, there was a reason why he was still a free agent. His prime years are past him.

His explosiveness is lost and with Steele playing on the team, Hunt will get under 10 carries for the majority of his games. Simply put, unless a drastic change happens, he's not a good player for you to use a roster spot in.

Is Kareem Hunt a good waiver wire pick-up in fantasy football?

Managers should use this spot for other running backs, such as Carson Steele, if he's still available in your fantasy league.

Fantasy football is all about opportunities but this looks like a situation that you should avoid. Hunt is not going to be a difference-maker in Kansas City and he's not a good pickup in the waiver wire.
