KaVontae Turpin is an American football wide receiver and return specialist for the Dallas Cowboys, as of the 2024 NFL season. After going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, he began his NFL career in 2022 when he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys. According to Pro Football Reference, he has amassed 33 receptions for 403 yards and scored five receiving touchdowns. He also rushed for 141 rushing yards and recorded one rushing touchdown, as of Week 11 of the 2024 NFL season.
Before entering the NFL, KaVontae Turpin played collegiate football for the TCU Horned Frogs. He concluded his collegiate career at TCU with 145 receptions for 1,748 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns (via Sports Reference). Prior to that, he played high school football at Neville High School in Monroe, east of Shreveport, Louisiana, where he recorded 1,928 all-purpose yards, including 904 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior. Turpin attended Texas Christian University (TCU), where he played football from 2015 to 2018. In January 2015, he committed to TCU, choosing it over an offer from Texas Tech. During his time at TCU, he set several records and earned various accolades for his performance throughout his tenure.
As a freshman in 2015, he played in all 13 games, starting five, and recorded 45 receptions for 649 yards and eight touchdowns. He also recorded 17 punt returns for 181 yards and a touchdown, and 27 kick returns for 729 yards.
In 2016, he played in eight games with two starts, battling injuries throughout the season, and finished with 986 all-purpose yards, including 30 receptions for 295 yards and one touchdown as a sophomore.
As a junior in 2017, he played in all 14 games with three starts, totaling 394 receiving yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns, and led the team with 1,202 all-purpose yards, including 260 punt return yards and 462 kick return yards.
As a senior in 2018, he recorded 29 receptions for 410 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns in the seven games he played.
