When talking about underrated wide receivers, no name comes to mind quicker than Keenan Allen. A mainstay of the Chargers franchise for a decade now, Allen has become a constantly brilliant contributor. He was slated for athletic success ever since his High School days in North Carolina, where he was a three-sport star. While his track & field career did not pan out, his football career blossomed, albeit as a defensive back. However, a change in programs at the University of California saw the NC native shift to wide receiver. Playing with his half-brother Zach Maynard, Allen set the school record for passes, while also finishing top 5 and top 10 in yards and touchdowns respectively.
A PCL sprain caused Keenan’s first-round draft projection to drop. Instead, he fell to the San Diego Chargers in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. As the team had a solid WR core in place, Allen was very low in the pecking order. However, with season-ending injuries to 2 other WRs, Allen got playing time. And, he took off. Finishing with the Chargers' rookie record for yards, sixth all-time in league history, while also finishing third all-time in touchdowns for rookies. He led all rookies with his 71 receptions and was a runner-up for the Offensive Rookie of the Year honor. He translated his play to the playoffs as well becoming the second rookie ever to record 100 receiving yards along with two touchdowns. Unfortunately, the next two seasons saw Allen spend the majority of his time on the sidelines due to various injuries.
But, from 2017 onwards, there’s been no slowing him down.
What is Keenan Allen’s Height?
Keenan Allen has a recorded height of 6 feet and 2 inches or 1.88 meters. Keenan Alexander Allen was born on April 27th, 1992, in Greensboro, North Carolina. While he spent the majority of his childhood in the area playing football, basketball, and running track, he shifted to nearby Berkeley for his collegiate career as a football Wide Receiver.
With the ideal height for a wide receiver, Allen’s game was tailor-made for the NFL. Due to a PCL injury right before the draft, his stock fell and the Chargers got a steal in the third round. After injury concerns plagued him in his 2nd and 3rd year after a phenomenal rookie season, questions arose about his place in the league.
However, 2017 saw a renaissance for Allen. Coming back from a torn ACL, Keenan put together an otherworldly season, recording the third-most yards in the league, and second all-time in Chargers history. His season saw him earn the first of 5 consecutive Pro Bowls, while he enjoyed a remarkable 3-week streak of 10+ catches, and 100 or more receiving yards while recording at least a single touchdown. He was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year and his career took off. In the years since he’s accumulated 4 more Pro Bowl selections and become one of the most prolific names in the Chargers’ rich history.
