Khalil Herbert fantasy football waiver wire advice

Khalil Herbert has spent his entire career so far as a running back for the Chicago Bears. This recently changed when he was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals ahead of the 2024 NFL trade deadline. He was unable to carve out a significant role in the Bears' backfield this year, so a change of teams could be beneficial for him.

The trade also makes Herbert an interesting player to target on the Week 10 fantasy football waiver wire. He is joining one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league, so if he can establish a reliable workload for himself, he could provide fantasy value for the rest of the 2024 season.

Khalil Herbert has spent most of his NFL career with the Chicago Bears as a depth option for their running backs. He has been lightly used in their offensive scheme most of the time, but has demonstrated his upside in limited opportunities at additional playing time.

During the 2023 season, Herbert played in more than 50% of the offensive snaps just six times, but finished among the top 10 weekly running backs in fantasy football for three of them. The year before was a similar story as he played in more than half of the snaps just twice, but turned in RB1 and RB25 weekly finishes in those two games.

His rookie season in 2021 followed the same trend with two of his four games that he earned a majority snap share resulting in finishes of RB11 or better. He has clearly demonstrated that he can provide massive upside when given the opportunity to be a featured running back, but the Bears have consistently buried him on their depth chart.

His 2024 fantasy football season has been a major disappointment as he has yet to receive more than four touches in a single game as the Bears' RB3 behind D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson. This may be why the Cincinnati Bengals decided to target him at the trade deadline as his limited usage likely made him an available option.

His new situation makes him an interesting player on the fantasy football Week 10 waiver wire. The Bengals recently placed Zack Moss on the injured reserve list, so Herbert will likely get an opportunity to share the backfield with Chase Brown.

Moss was averaging 12 touches per game prior to his injury, and considering Khalil Herbert's history of strong performances in extended playing time, his fantasy outlook could be bright.
