Kylian Mbappe or Tyreek Hill: Who would have a faster 40-yard dash?

Houston Texans v Miami Dolphins
Tyreek Hill #10 of the Miami Dolphins runs onto the field during player introductions

Kylian Mbappe and Tyreek Hill are both among the fastest players in the sports they play. However, it might be difficult to compare them because NFL players usually have to carry around more weight when running. Mbappe was clocked running at 23.61 mph (38 kph). He would therefore be one of the NFL's fastest players, if not the fastest. His incredible quickness, both with and without the ball, has made it possible to breach defenses worldwide.

Mbappe, a World Cup champion, set a record-breaking top speed in 2020 with 10.6 meters per second. That is approximately 23.7 mph. It still falls far short of Usain Bolt's 100-meter world record. When he established the world record in 2009, the Jamaican sprinting legend attained a speed of 27.8 mph.

Before being selected for the NFL draft, players who have graduated from college will run the 40-yard sprint at the NFL Combine. Hill ran his 40-yard sprint in 4.29 seconds. None of the 2016 NFL Combine candidates ran a time quicker than that.

Tyreek Hill has a reputation for being quick, going back to his time in college at West Alabama and even before. Hill is more than just a speed demon, although it's challenging to watch Hill play without realizing that Hill is truly incredibly quick.

At the NFL Combine, only three active players ran faster 40-yard dash speeds than Hill did during his Pro Day. Concerning the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Mbappé's peak speed versus Poland was 35.3 kph (or 22 mph), among the quickest times recorded.

Hill and Mbappe would likely have very similar 40-yard dash times, and it really could go either way.

What is Tyreek Hill's fastest on-field speed?

Hill maintains his penchant for quickness in NFL games as well. According to Next Gen Stats, he had the fifth-fastest sprinting speed with the ball during the 2020 league season. Later that season, his 44-yard receiving touchdown showed Hill at a peak speed of 21.91 mph.

In 2018, Tyreek Hill had two top 10 ball-carrying speeds (21.95 mph and 21.78 mph). This was also the case in 2017 (21.64 mph and 21.35 mph). In Week 2 of his rookie season, Hill ran the fastest time ever with the ball in his hands on an NFL field. Hill recorded a top speed of 23.24 mph on a kickoff return of 27 yards.
