Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson is just the second unanimous MVP in NFL history. When people talk about great quarterbacks in the league, not enough is said about Jackson. He is arguably the best dual-threat QB in the league as of right now. Jackson was picked last in the first round when it comes to quarterbacks, however today the teams that passed on him must be regretting the decision as he is a generational talent who does not come around very often.

Ever since Jackson got to start for the Ravens, his electrifying playmaking and athleticism were on full display. He brought a dynamic element to the Ravens’ offense with his speed, elusiveness and ability to extend plays by also running with the football. His running ability in particular added a new dimension to the team’s ground game and posed significant challenges to opposing defenses. However, his running ability brought questions about his passing game and critics were still doubting his ability to throw the football. To everyone’s surprise, as the season progressed, Jackson established himself as a dual-threat QB and silenced his doubters.

Under Jackson’s leadership, the Ravens had a playoff appearance in his very first NFL season. However they ended up losing against the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite the loss, Jackson gained valuable experience and would bounce back next season to have one of the most sizzling MVP seasons in recent history.

After his MVP campaign, Jackson was not done. While the numbers dropped off a little from his historic season in 2019, he rushed for over 1000 yards becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to achieve that feat in consecutive seasons. When it comes to his passing skills, Jackson continued to make his skills better. He demonstrated improved accuracy and decision-making showing a better understanding of reading defense and making the right throws. Jackson also has the most 100-plus yards rushing games for a quarterback with 13 games.

Jackson’s journey to stardom has not been easy. His father passed away when he was just eight years old because of a heart attack. To make matters worse, Jackson’s grandmother also passed away on the same day. Jackson relied on his mother for everything. It was her belief in him that allowed him to achieve tremendous amounts of success. When various coaches and critics wanted Jackson to play wide receiver or defensive back, his mother was the one who insisted on him playing the quarterback spot.
