Stadiums are the places fans are meant to be to enjoy an entertaining live sporting event. The NFL boasts some of the best and biggest stadiums in the world. Going to an NFL game is a one-of-a-kind experience which makes fans want to return again and again. In fact, each franchise has thousands of season ticket holders who make it a point to attend as many games in the year as possible. The stadiums in the NFL also have unique features that aren’t found anywhere else. For example, the TIAA Bank Field Stadium which is home to the Jacksonville Jaguars has luxurious swimming pools which overlook the field.

Philadelphia Eagles Home Venue

The Lincoln Financial Field Stadium is where the Philadelphia Eagles play their home games. This stadium is located at 1020 Pattison Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and uses Bermuda grass as its playing surface. Along with the Eagles, the Temple Owls football team (of Temple University) also play their games here. Several soccer matches are also played in this stadium.

Lincoln Financial Field will be one of the locations for the upcoming 2026 Fifa World Cup. It has also been the main location for the annual game between the Army and the Navy because of its nearly equal distance between the two universities.

Lincoln Financial Field Stadium Capacity

Lincoln Financial Field Stadium is one of the bigger stadiums in the NFL as far as the seating capacity goes. It can seat up to 67,594 fans but can also be expanded to accommodate roughly 71,896. Prior to the construction of the Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles used to play their home games at Veterans Stadium which had similar seating capacity but had much less luxurious and wheelchair seating.

The current Eagles home has 172 luxury suites and can accommodate guests ranging from 12 to 40 people. The luxury suites are located at six different locations in the stadium. In total, there are 3,040 luxury suite seats.

Lincoln Financial Field Stadium History

The construction of this stadium officially started on May 7, 2001, and was opened on August 3, 2003. The naming rights to the stadium were sold to the Lincoln Financial Group in June 2002. The first event hosted by the stadium was a soccer match played between the international clubs Manchester United and FC Barcelona on August 3, 2003.

The Eagles played their first game in the new stadium which was a preseason game against the New England Patriots on August 22, 2003. Their first regular season home game at the stadium came against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 8, 2003.

Lincoln Financial Field Stadium Construction and Cost

The stadium broke ground on May 7, 2001, and was completed a little over two years later. The initial construction cost came up to $512 million at the time. May 2004 saw some minor changes being made in order to change the capacity slightly. During 2013 and 2014, the stadium was renovated and expanded.

Primarily used by the Eagles as their home stadium, the design took inspiration from an eagle and has wing-like canopies on its East and West stands. Furthermore, it has an Eagle's Nest balcony beyond the north end zone. Fans also get great views of the city’s skyline with three open sides.

With the renovation that took place in 2013, the stadium added additional seating, upgraded amenities such as WiFi, a couple of new connecting bridges and two new HD video boards. The total cost of the renovation was approximately north of $125 million.

What to bring to Lincoln Financial Field Stadium

For security reasons, all fans are requested to limit the number of bags they carry into the stadium. Along the lines of the NFL’s bag policy, the security at Lincoln Financial Field has the authority to permit or prohibit entry of respective items.

The following items are permitted at the stadium:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC but which do not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12” in dimension

  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)

  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand but not larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″. The small clutch bag may be carried into the stadium additionally with one of the clear bag options.

  • Only necessary medication can be carried inside the stadium subject to inspection.

All other bags such as larger backpacks, purses, briefcases, camera bags, binocular cases, computer bags, etc. are strictly prohibited. The NFL is clear with its instructions on the permitted size and type of bags and anything different will not be entertained during security checking. Apart from this other banned items include but are not limited to the following:

  • Alcohol

  • Animals (except service dogs)

  • Balls

  • Bottles, cans and beverages of any kind

  • Clothing containing wires, batteries or other electronic components

  • Drones and any other remote-controlled aircraft systems

  • E-cigarettes and Vaporizers

  • Fireworks, firearms and weapons of any kind

  • Food not wrapped in clear plastic

  • Helmets

  • Laptops

  • Laser pointers

  • Noisemakers

  • Selfie Sticks

  • Signs larger than 18’’ x 24’’

  • Seat cushions

  • Smoking (except in designated areas)

  • Strollers

  • Umbrellas

  • Video cameras

  • Any other item or action deemed dangerous or inappropriate

What is the parking cost at Lincoln Financial Field Stadium

Lincoln Financial Stadium is surrounded by several parking lots. In fact, lots are labeled from A all the way up to V. As per the website parking during Eagles games for cars is $45 while that for oversized vehicles is $90. Lots D/E, Lot J, Lot K, and Lot L are all reserved lots.

Cheaper parking options can be found outside the sports complex, but finding parking on the streets will be a daunting task. However, the best more affordable options outside the complex will be off-site parking garages where rates can be as low as $15 for 24 hours. Hourly parking rates of $1 are also available nearby but at walking distance of 5-10 minutes from the stadium.
