The NFLPA’s Alan Page Community Award, as the name suggests, honors those players who go above and beyond for the community by performing services in their hometown and team city. This goodwill has been recognized by the NFL since 1967 when the award was first presented to the former Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr. The Alan Page Award was known as the Byron "Whizzer" White NFL Man of the Year Award for a long time until it was in 2018 honoring Alan Page. Many notable former players such as Archie Manning, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Warrick Dunn, Gale Sayers, and more have been honored with this award in the past.
The man after whom this award is named as of January 2025, was a former NFL defensive tackle and a Minnesota state Supreme Court judge as well. He was the first defensive person to ever win the NFL MVP and since then only Lawrence Taylor has been able to match this feat. During his career in the NFL, Page played for two franchises notably, the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears. He played for 15 long years before finally hanging up his boots in 1981. He was the player representative of the National Football League Players Association for several years during the 1970s. After his playing career came to an end, Page would eventually become a justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court.
