Los Angeles is a city that has had some complications when it comes to retaining an NFL franchise. First, it started with the Cleveland Rams who relocated to the famous city in 1946 and played there until 1979. In 1980 the Rams went to Anaheim, California. Then, in 1960 an AFL team, Los Angeles Chargers started playing in the city but relocated to San Diego after just one season. And in a surprise move, 1982 saw the Oakland Raiders become the Los Angeles Raiders. But things didn’t go as planned and by 1995, Los Angeles was without an NFL franchise.

Then suddenly, within a span of two years, Los Angeles was back with two franchises the Rams came back in 2016 and the Chargers came back the following year. The Rams are part of the NFC conference and have a larger fan base having been the original team from the city and having played there for many years.

Rams Mascot Rampage

The Los Angeles Rams as a franchise do not have the best association when it comes to having a mascot. Since their history, the Rams have been one of the last teams to jump on the bandwagon of having a mascot. As a matter of fact, all of their initial mascots did not last very long, i.e. until 2010 when Rampage was introduced.

Rampage, the official mascot of the Rams is a costumed ram whose body and face are a darker shade of brown while his horns, mouth, and nose are a lighter brown. He has blue eyes and wears the Rams uniform with the number 1 jersey. Rampage is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs close to 200 lb. Ironically, despite being a ram, Rampage is without a tail. He is known to be one of the friendliest mascots in the league and gets along with the opposition as well.

Rampage quickly started becoming one of the more popular mascots in the league even though he is a relatively late entrant. He is credited as being the only mascot who can do backflips and his immense following has seen him attend a surprising seven Pro Bowls.

Rams mascot Rampage activities

Rampage has done several promotional videos with various other mascots. He has participated in halftime mascot football games, visiting other sporting events in both St. Louis and Los Angeles, plus leading out the team for home games.

Off the field, Rampage has been part of many commercials, and promotional videos and has even been on the news. And like most other mascots, Rampage makes over 300 appearances throughout the year at various charities, schools, parties, and more.

How Rampage was named

As Rampage was introduced in 2010, the team at the time was based in St. Louis, Missouri. An online contest to name the mascot was held for the fans in St. Louis in which the top entries amongst several hundreds were Ramsey, Rammer, and Rampage.

The winner of the contest was Chris Shaffer who got to watch a Rams game from a suite along with fifteen members of his friends and family. Moreover, he also got a Rams jersey and a $200 gift card from the official Rams online store.
