Most of us are very familiar with the name Christian McCaffrey. He is the star running back for the Super Bowl LVIII runners-up, San Francisco 49ers. However, what many may not know is that his youngest brother, Luke McCaffrey is the latest member of the family who is now ready to make his dream into reality as he gets ready for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

The youngest McCaffrey is a wide receiver who completed his last year of eligibility at Rice University in 2023. Playing for the Rice Owls football team from 2021, McCaffrey who used to be a signal caller in his initial few years of college, made the switch to a wideout in 2022 after getting limited starting time under center.

McCaffrey has a lot of family background in sports going all the way back to his maternal grandfather, Dave Sime who was an Olympic Silver Medalist in the 100 meters at the 1960 Rome Olympics. His mother, Lisa participated in track in college and was also a top-class soccer player in college.

However, the biggest inspiration for the 22-year-old comes from his father who himself was a stand-out wide receiver in the NFL who played for 13 years and won 3 Super Bowls in the 90s. With so much history and accomplishments to overcome for the youngster, let us take a look at what his siblings have been able to achieve.

Luke McCaffrey is the youngest of four siblings. He has three older brothers and all of them have something to do with football. The Colorado native’s brothers are Max, Christian, and Dylan in order of birth.

While the McCaffrey parents were always open to letting their boys take up any career of their liking, all four brothers were interested in American football and took to the sport with the image of their father and his days as a professional player in their minds.

Max McCaffrey

Max McCaffrey is the firstborn of four siblings. He was born on May 17, 1994, and is 29 years old as of February 2024. As it comes with no surprise, Max McCaffrey was the first of the siblings to play collegiate football when he went to Duke University.

The oldest McCaffrey sibling played as a wide receiver just like his father and his style of running was reminiscent of his father. After finishing college, Max went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft but signed with the Oakland Raiders (Las Vegas Raiders) as an undrafted free agent. However, he was let go even before the 2016 season began.

From there on, Maccafrey’s NFL journey did not go according to plan as he found himself on multiple teams with hardly any playing time. He finished his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019.

Since 2020, Max McCaffrey has turned his attention to coaching. He started out as a wide receivers coach for the University of Northern Colorado where his father was also on the coaching staff.

Working his way up the coaching ladder, the former NFL wideout landed a job as an Offensive Assistant with the Miami Dolphins in March 2023 which is where he remains as of February 2024.

Christian McCaffrey

As for Christian McCaffrey, very little needs to be said as he has already achieved tremendous success in the NFL. He is the second oldest of the four brothers and the most successful of the lot as of this day at least. He took a different approach than most of his brothers who all played either wide receiver or quarterback as the current 49ers player is the only running back in the family.

The former Carolina Panthers running back started his football career like his brothers at Valor Christian High School and then attended Stanford University where he played for three seasons on the Stanford Cardinals football team. Having had impressive sophomore and junior seasons in college, McCaffrey went pro and was selected by the Panthers in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Christian spent 5.5 seasons in Carolina before he was traded to the 49ers in 2022. As of February 2024, he has become an integral member of the 49ers team under the run-dominant offensive style of Kyle Shanahan. Most of the 49ers offense runs through the Stanford alumnus and he led the franchise to an appearance in Super Bowl LVIII in 2024 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

While the 49ers didn’t lift the Lombardi Trophy, Cristian McCaffrey did lift the 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Dylan McCaffrey

Dylan Mccaffrey is the third brother amongst the four and his story is perhaps the saddest one amongst all. He was a real talent and a five-star prospect in high school and had all the chances in the world to become a great quarterback at the collegiate level, but somehow, things didn't go according to plan and he has had to give up on his dream of playing in the NFL.

The once highly touted signal caller also went to Valor Christian High School and then attended the University of Michigan where everything started to fall apart. He couldn’t win the starting spot on the team and as the years went by he finally transferred to the lesser-known University of North Colorado to play under his father, Ed McCaffrey.

However, even that move couldn’t help him overcome his struggles and eventually, he had to give up his dream of one day playing in the NFL like his father and other brothers. Dylan McCaffrey’s story is quite sad considering the fact that he was regarded as the best talent amongst all four siblings.

Do all McCaffrey Brothers play football?

All of the McCaffrey brothers have played football either at the collegiate level or the NFL. As a matter of fact, all four McCaffrey brothers played gridiron football in high school and college following in their father’s footsteps.

Out of the four siblings, Christian McCaffrey has turned out to be a star running back in the NFL while Max and Dylan were not able to accomplish similar levels of success. However, now it is the turn of the youngest brother Luke to see what he can do with the opportunity that he gets in the upcoming NFL draft.
