Mac Jones is a talented quarterback who currently plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL as the backup for Trevor Lawrence. Jones came into the league as a replacement for the departing legend that is Tom Brady when he was selected by the New England Patriots in 2021. With big shoes to fill, Jones got off to the type of start he would have loved earning a Pro Bowl nomination in his rookie season.

He started his high school football career at the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida. As a senior, he led his team to the Florida 4A title. Jones eventually chose to play for the Crimson Tide, choosing a scholarship offer from the University of Alabama. However, he red-shirted as a freshman. Further, he also got into some controversy after being charged with ADUI and receiving a 1 game suspension.

In his second season, Jones was more of a holder on special teams. However, he showed his passing talent with the 94-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle, the second-longest in school history in a win against Louisiana. Still, he spent most of the next season as a replacement for Tua Tagovailoa. After the latter suffered a severe hip injury, though, Jones made the move to starting quarterback.

In his 4 starts, he beat Arkansas and Western Carolina before suffering his first defeat in the Iron Bowl against Auburn. Yet Joens himself was sensational as he threw for 335 yards and four touchdowns in the 48-45 defeat. The following citrus bowl was different as this time, Alabama secured an easy 35-16 victory over Michigan. He finally took over the starting quarterback position after Tua departed for the 2020 NFL draft. Throughout a senior campaign, Jones was sensational leading Alabama to an 11-0 record in a schedule where they were only featured against in-conference opponents. Some of his most spectacular victories included the one against Mississippi State, where Alabama won 41 to nothing.

His performance in the NCAA playoffs, however, was a different story altogether. In the Rose Bowl semi-final game, he threw four touchdown passes. He would better that effort in the national championship game against Ohio State with five touchdown passes. His 203.1 passer rating and 77.4 completion percentage are both NCAA season records. He finished off a spectacular season with 4500 yards in total to go along with 41 touchdowns and just four interceptions. As a result, he was the recipient of the Davey O'Brien, the Johnny United Golden Arm, and the Manning Awards while finishing third in Heisman voting.

After a sensational collegiate career, Mac Jones was among the highest-rated prospects in the draft. Even though he was initially slotted to go 3rd overall to the San Francisco 49ers, Jones went on to serve as a replacement for the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady, as the New England Patriots selected him with the 15th overall pick.

Immediately thrust into the starting role Jones was sensational in his rookie season finishing with 3801 passing yards and 22 touchdowns with the highest completion percentage among rupee quarterbacks for the year. Furthermore, he was the only rookie quarterback to lead a team to a winning record and playoff appearance. He was named a member of the all-rookie team and finished second in offensive rookie of the year voting. He became the fourth rookie in Patriots history to receive Pro Bowl honors after making the game as an alternate.

A change in the offensive coaching ranks saw Jones struggle throughout the 2022 season. After the departure of Josh McDaniels in favor of Matt Patricia, Jones saw his standing fall by the week in favor of Bailey Zappe.

After another tough year in 2023, Jones was traded to the Jaguars in March 2024 which is where he will be finishing the last year of his rookie deal with the 5th-year option available to the team.

What is Mac Jones’ Height?

Michael McCorkle “Mac” Jones was born on September 5th, 1998 in Jacksonville, Florida. After spending his initial days in Florida, Jones chose Alabama as a college option. Mac Jones has a recorded height of 6 feet and 3 inches or 1.91 meters. This height is around the average height of quarterbacks in the NFL. As a result, it has allowed him to amass a strong collegiate career before transitioning to the NFL.

While his height was perfectly suited for the quarterback position, it has not been the defining factor of his career. Instead, it’s his precision passing, and accuracy that has allowed him to succeed at the highest levels. In fact, he holds the NCAA record for the highest single-season completion percentage, as well as the highest career passing yard average.
