The Madden series of football games by EA Sports has been the most famous NFL game for several years. The first release was way back in 1988 and until 1993, it was called John Madden Football. Over the course of the years, Madden NFL as it is known now has been a part of a plethora of platforms. This game continues to dominate the NFL gaming market and has been the number one American Football game for fans for well over 25 years now.
Who is Madden NFL named after?
The Madden NFL franchise is named after Hall of Fame Coach and announcer John Madden. Madden was the Head Coach of the then Oakland Raiders from 1969 to 1978 where he enjoyed tremendous success. He coached the team to eight playoff appearances and won Super Bowl XI with them.
Madden is perhaps even better known for all the work he has done in his sportscasting career. In 1979, he joined CBS Sports where he would continue a long journey which terminated in 1993. During his time at CBS, he was paired with many fellow announcers but most notably with Pat Summerall with whom he would call eight Super Bowls. Eventually, Madden would continue his amazing broadcasting journey till 2008 working with Fox Sports, ABC Sports, and NBC Sports. It was his lively and energetic style of commentating which was a hit with the television audiences and won him a total of fourteen Sports Emmy Awards.
What are Madden Cover Athletes?
Even since the year 2000, the game has always featured at least one active or a former NFL player on the covers of its cases. These covers have over the years become synonymous with the game and always create a buzz before the latest installments. Normally the team at EA Sports will select the player to be featured on the next cover, but they also allow fans to cast their votes and take that into consideration. Since John Madden passed away in December 2021, the EA Sports franchise decided to honor him by placing his image on the 2023 edition of Madden NFL. However, with the release of Madden NFL 24 slated to be on 18th August, the franchise is back with another active player on its cover.
Who are the cover athletes for Madden 24?
This time around EA Sports has announced that only one player will feature on the cover of the upcoming Madden NFL 24 game. The player selected for the latest edition is none other than the Buffalo Bills signal caller - Josh Allen. Incidentally, the game has never featured any player from the Bills franchise before. Although making the cover for Madden NFL is a huge accomplishment and an honor to cherish both for the player, franchise and its fan base, many people are skeptical as the infamous Madden curse has dealt severe blows to many of the past athletes. On numerous occasions the athletes have suffered injuries or bad form or luck for the next season. Nevertheless, one exception that has stood out was in Super Bowl LIV when Patrick Mahomes was on the cover of the game for the 2020 edition and then led the Kansas City Chiefs to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Why was Josh Allen selected for the Madden NFL 24 cover?
Josh Allen who has had the Bills top job on the field for the past five years has turned around the franchise’s fortunes. He has not only helped the team win their division for the past three years, but he has also been the driving force behind the team’s four consecutive playoff appearances. The two time Pro Bowler has his sights set on the Super Bowl as well as the NFL MVP award. Add that to the fact that the Bills never had a player featuring on the Madden cover, and the selection of Josh Allen was quite a simple one.
EA Sports has also made the official trailer of the game available on social media. You can find the link given below.
