How are Madden NFL Players rated?

The rating system of Madden NFL is based on player performances throughout the previous season. They take into account their physical attributes and statistics throughout the season to assign ratings for players and then give them a cumulative rating. The ratings go from 0-100 and the top rated players in the game are rated 99. These are players who have outperformed in a particular season or have outstanding accolades to their name.

The following general attributes are assigned to a player which help determine their overall rating. There are finer aspects of each attribute to, which are assigned to a player based on their fitness, mentality and performance statistics.

• Overall Rating (OVR): Overall player rating. It is calculated by weighing certain attributes more heavily depending on the position of the player. Position specific attributes contribute to the overall rating. For example, the passer rating of a quarterback determines their overall rating.

• Strength Rating (STR): The better a player blocks or a defense sheds blocks and uses power techniques in real life, the stronger they are rated.

• Agility Rating (AGI): Determines the quickness with which a player navigates the field and changes or cuts directions.

• Speed Rating (SPD): This rating is based on how fast a player can run and the top speed they have reached.

• Acceleration Rating (ACC): Rate at which player will reach their fastest speed.

• Stamina (STA): Determines how soon a player will need to be replaced due to fatigue. The longer a player can play without becoming weary, the better their stamina.

• Awareness (AWR): This rating is based on the speed with which a player will respond to his environment. With greater awareness ratings, blocks will better set up and respond to blocking lanes, wide receivers will search for the ball faster on routes, defenders will respond to the ball in the air more quickly for zone and man coverage, and defensive linemen will respond more quickly to run plays and slip screens.

• Jumping (JMP): Determines how high a player can jump and catch a ball.

• Injury (INJ): This is based on the injury record of a player. A higher injury rating on the game translates to the player not getting injured easily.

• Toughness (TGH): A player's capacity to recover from an injury rapidly. A player's ability to recover more rapidly and reduce their risk of suffering another injury is reflected in their toughness grade.
