Marlowe Eugene Wax Jr., born on December 13, 2002, is an American football player who plays for the Syracuse Orange and announced his return for the 2024 season. He attended Mount St. Joseph High School where he was a three-star prospect by Rivals and played as both running back and linebacker. In his senior season he racked up 111 tackles, 23 TFLs, five sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and three interceptions. Wax’s performances subsequently earned him the 2019 Baltimore Sun All-Metro Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
The 6’1”, 230 pounds’ linebacker committed to Syracuse University in 2020 and overlooked offers from Pitt, Kent State, East Carolina, Temple, Marshall, and Toledo. Wax appeared in 11 games as a true freshman in 2020 and notched 33 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and had three sacks on the season. The Baltimore native has both size and speed to compete in the passing and running aspects of the game. In 2021, Wax started in all 12 games as the linebacker and made 60 tackles (36 solo), 9.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks and forced a fumble.
Wax led the SU defense in tackles in a remarkable 2022 campaign. He registered 10.5 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. In four seasons with the Orange, Wax has accumulated 294 tackles, 16.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, and one interception. The 230-pound linebacker has led the Orange in tackles over the past two seasons and will return next year to play under new head coach Fran Brown. He’s an explosive LB in Syracuse’s defense showcasing solid strength and good closing speed.
