Mecole Hardman's 2022 season did not go as many had anticipated. When the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, many looked to Hardman to fill the vacuum left by Hill's departure as Kansas City's former No. 1 option. Yet before sustaining a groin injury that ended his season, he only participated in eight games.

The Chiefs are reportedly "bracing to lose" Hardman in free agency as he looks at other options, and the Falcons may be one of the teams to woo the former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver, according to ESPN.

The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Mecole Hardman as the 56th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. He has played four seasons with the Chiefs and will hit free agency if the Chiefs' do not extend his contract.

Mecole Hardman signed a 4 year, $4,995,052 contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, including a $1,652,764 signing bonus, $2,374,812 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,248,763 on May 2019.

His contract ended after the 2022 season, and according to rumors, the Chiefs have already decided to release him. In his four seasons, he earned $8,054,974.

In the 2022 NFL season, Hardman started in five of the eight games he played in. In those eight games, he recorded 25 receptions on 34 targets for 297 yards and scored four touchdowns. He also rushed for 31 yards in four attempts and scored two rushing touchdowns.

Mecole Hardman underwent surgery to treat his core muscle injury

In Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans, Hardman sustained a groin injury and missed the majority of the season. When he returned for the AFC Championship Game, his injury worsened as he battled for a first down during crucial play.

Hardman revealed on his social media platform that he underwent surgery for a core muscle injury in February.

Dr. William Meyers, a noted expert in the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of injuries to the core muscles, performed surgery on the player while he was in Philadelphia.

Hardman wrote on Twitter:

“Surgery was a success. I appreciate everyone who said a prayer! This definitely will be a full recovery.”

The wide receiver's rookie contract is set to expire in March, making him eligible for unrestricted free agency. By completing his surgeries, he will be on the path to recovery as he enters the open market.
