On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins traveled to Huntington Bank Field to take on the Cleveland Browns in a must-win game for the visitors.

The Cincinnati Bengals' win over the Denver Broncos on Saturday kept the Dolphins' hopes of a playoff berth alive, but they had to hold up their end of the bargain and beat the Browns. A defeat would have eliminated them from playoff contention.

Cleveland has nothing to play for but would have liked to end their home campaign with a victory. Both teams fielded their backup quarters, making the outcome hard to predict. Here's how the game panned out.

Miami Dolphins vs. Cleveland Browns game summary

The first half was a defensive slugfest. The Dolphins opened the scoring late in the first quarter as kicker Jason Sanders split the uprights from 54 yards out to give his team a 3-0 lead.

The Browns responded with a 16-play, 61-yard drive which stalled at Miami's seven-yard line, forcing Cleveland to settle for a field goal. Dorian Thompson-Robinson and the Browns offense looked assured on this drive and hoped to build some momentum off it. However, the Dolphins' defense put up a dominant display the rest of the way.

Late in the second quarter, the quarterback tried to find wide receiver Jerry Jeudy near midfield, but linebacker Tyrel Dodson read the play perfectly and picked the pass off to give the offense a short field to work with.

Miami couldn't capitalize and went three-and-out, allowing Cleveland to end the half on a high. The Browns were keen on adding to their total before the break. They faced 4th-and-1 at the Dolphin's 38-yard line and decided to go for it instead of settling for a 53-yard field goal attempt.

However, they'd end up regretting the decision as Miami's defense stopped them short and forced a turnover. Quarterback Tyler Huntley and the offense couldn't get going after the first turnover but made the second count. They took 40 seconds to get 28 yards to set up a 39-yard field goal attempt for Sander, who made no mistake in converting the opportunity and gave his team the lead.

The short drive was seemingly exactly what the Dolphins' offense needed to find their rhythm. On their first drive in the second half, Huntley went 4-of-4 for 61 yards before using his legs to scramble for another 13 to score a touchdown and give his team a two-score lead.

The Browns tried to mount a comeback but the Dolphins' defense wouldn't let them. On a 2nd-and-13 play late in the third quarter, linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah strip-sacked Thompson-Robinson and defensive end Da'Shawn Hand got his hands on the loose ball, as Miami forced a turnover for the third time in the game.

Their fourth came on the subsequent drive. After the offense came up short on a 4th-and-1 attempt and handed possession back to Cleveland, Thompson-Robinson led his team to Miami's three-yard line, where it was their turn to face fourth down.

The quarterback tried to find Jeudy in the endzone, but veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey deflected the pass away to end the drive.

Late in the fourth quarter, the desperate faced 4th-and-5 at their 18-yard line and had no choice but to go for it. Thompson-Robinson found Michael Woods with a short pass but he was stopped short of the line to gain, as the Dolphins defense forced a turnover for the sixth time.

Eighteen seconds later, the visitors' offense put the game beyond Cleveland's reach, as Huntley and tight end Jonnu Smith combined for a touchdown.

In the game's penultimate drive, the Browns offense drove the ball to the Dolphins' 17-yard line, but on 4th-and-5, Thompson-Robinson couldn't find Elijah Moore with his deep pass and Cleveland turned it over on downs.

Huntley took a knee on the final play to run off the clock and secure his team's win.
