The tearaway edge rusher for the Dallas Cowboys, Micah Parsons strikes terror in offenses. He boasts of explosive speed and can therefore get off the line quickly. This is evident in his game and even more when at his combine he ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash. He is at his best when allowed to run free, but also possesses the necessary physicality to get by the offensive line.

The two-time pro bowler was considered to be a first-year starter for any team that picked him in the draft. He was taken 12th overall by the Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft. Parson excels in many roles as he is equally effective in stopping the run, rushing the passer as well as defending the tight ends and slot receivers. There is no particular area on the field to which he cannot exude his strength since he is omnipresent wherever the action is. Even more fascinating is that coupled with his speed he has the awareness of how to fake a run to one side only to cut back easily against the less nimble guards and tackles making his way to the opposition quarterback.

Parsons today is a product of all the excellent work he has put in during his high school and college days. In that sense, it is only fair to see how his career as a student has shaped his game for the NFL.

Which High School did Micah Parson attend?

Parson was born in 1999 in the city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He started his high school education and football career attending Central Dauphin High School where he spent his freshman and sophomore years. For his junior year, he then transferred to Harrisburg High School where he became part of their football team.

The fearful edge rusher while in high school was actually a two-way player as he not only played the defensive end position but was also a running back. The skills and abilities he picked up as a running back have most certainly helped him improve his defensive qualities as well. The speed, athleticism, quick footwork, and cut backs which are a large part of success for running backs are all traits that we see in Parsons’ game even as a linebacker. That is probably the most important reason as to why he is so difficult to contain on the turf.

Having tremendous success as a linebacker in his high school, he averaged well over 10 sacks per season. Furthermore, he had impactful contributions in tackles and tackles for loss, while also running the ball effectively on the offense. At the end of his time in high school, Parsons was rated as a five-star recruit and had offers from many top Universities such as Nebraska, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Penn State, and more.

Which College did Micah Parson attend?

Spoilt for choice from many top-rated Universities having excellent football programs, and a couple of commitments, Parsons finally settled on the offer by Penn State University. It was here that the coach of the team told Parsons that he would be switching him from his defensive end position which he played in high school to a middle linebacker role.

It did not take long for him to establish himself as a potential great in his new position. Even in his true freshman year where he started only one game, he still led the entire team in tackles with 82. Along with other key stats such as sacks, quarterback hurries, and tackles for loss, Micah had proved his worth. Continuing his strong showing in the rest of his college years, Parsons set himself up for a potentially great career ahead in the NFL.
