Michael Tarrance Penix Jr. is an American football quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. The Atlanta Falcons selected Penix Jr. as the 8th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Penix Jr. started his professional football career at Technical High School. During his high school tenure, Penix passed for more than 4,200 yards and 61 touchdowns in his two seasons.
Following high school, Penix joined Indiana University for his collegiate career. However, his three-season stint with the Hoosiers was unfortunate, as he suffered two season-ending ACL tears, limiting his playing time. In 2022, Penix joined the University of Washington, where he started showing his potential. During his time with the Huskies, he recorded 3,000 yards, broke several school records and led the NCAA in passing yardage. Penix Jr.'s grit and dedication earned him the AP Comeback Player of the Year as well as the prestigious Maxwell Award in 2022 and 2023 respectively. He was also named First-team All-American and received Second-team All-Pac 12 in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
