Michael Pittman Jr. is an NFL wide receiver who has been playing for the Indianapolis Colts franchise since 2020. He is the son of Michael Pittman, a former NFL running back who played for the Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Denver Broncos from 1998 to 2008.
Pittman Jr. was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the 34th overall pick by the Colts. He has since been one of the major weapons on the offensive side of the ball for the Colts. As a rookie, he finished with just a little over 500 receiving yards, but from 2021 onwards, Pittman has been the team’s leading receiver for the past three years in a row.
On March 11, 2024, Pittman’s outstanding performances were rewarded by the Colts as they signed a new contract with their leading receiver. This deal is a three-year deal worth $70 million and will provide Pittman with a boost for the upcoming phase of his career in Indianapolis.
Michael Pittman College
Pittman went to college at the University of South California (USC) from 2016 to 2019. In his freshman year in 2016, Pittman got a chance to feature on the USC Trojans football team as a wide receiver as well as a member of the special teams. While he did play in 13 games, his contributions as a freshman were quite less as a freshman as he caught only 6 receptions for 82 yards. On special teams, he had a couple of punt returns, 4 kickoff returns, and 7 tackles.
As a sophomore, Pittman saw slightly more action even though he missed the first three games of the season due to an injury. He continued to play the receiver position as well as on special teams. His 23 catches saw him gain 404 receiving yards on the season. He was also named to the First-team All-Pac-12 in 2017 for the first time.
In 2018, he took a step up as he received more game time and his production also increased. From 11 games he finished with 41 catches which included 6 touchdowns through the air and 758 receiving yards.
As a senior, Pittman improved by leaps and bounds. He was one of the best prospects at his position and just missed out on being drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by a couple of spots. Putting up some extraordinary numbers, Pittman finished the season playing 13 games in which he caught 101 passes including 11 touchdowns and 1,275 yards receiving yards. He made it to the First-team All-Pac-12 in 2017 for the second time and was also named to the Second-team All-American.
