Michael Pittman Jr. Week 8 Fantasy Outlook: Should you start him?

Jacksonville Jaguars v Indianapolis Colts
Michael Pittman Jr. of the Indianapolis Colts runs against Andre Cisco

Among the main areas of the Indianapolis Colts' unexpected high-quantity passing attack has been Michael Pittman Jr. In all the games he has appeared in this year, he has received at least six targets.

Although Parris Campbell has unexpectedly emerged as a high-volume alternative, and Jonathan Taylor is still one of the offense's key elements, his dependability is encouraging for his fantasy outlook.

Fantasy managers should start Michael Pittman Jr. because the Colts can sustain numerous receivers who are important to their lineup.

The Washington Commanders have given up the seventh-most fantasy points to wide receivers in addition to stopping the Green Bay Packers. However, many players on both teams may have a high-scoring fantasy outing if the two sides are made to throw a lot.

Pittman has a good chance against the Commanders' porous secondary in what is sure to be another pass-happy game. Pass DVOA places their defense in the bottom four.

The Colts' switch at quarterback might slightly hinder Pittman's output, but new starter Sam Ehlinger must frequently target Pittman.

Even with Sam Ehlinger at the helm, Pittman is still a foregone conclusion as a WR2. Despite not scoring a touchdown since Week 1, he still receives over 10 targets per week, giving him a relatively high floor in the PPR leagues.

Is Michael Pittman a valuable asset beyond week 8?

Pittman hauled six passes on nine attempts for 58 yards in the Tennessee Titans' 19-10 defeat on Sunday. Pittman played a significant role in the Colts' offensive unit with a 16-target effort, but Parris Campbell stole the show. Only two of Pittman's catches went for double-digit yards, and he was restricted to less than 60 yards for the third time in six weeks this season.

Pittman has developed a strong dependence on quantity since each of his 100-yard performances came in contests with 13 and 16 targets, respectively. That may reflect more on the Colts' offensive system than Pittman, but it doesn't bode well for his future prospects.

Parris Campbell, another wide receiver, has taken center stage with consecutive games of ten or more targets. Despite only seeing nine targets, Pittman caught six of them for a total of 58 yards in the defeat. Pittman's fumble of the ball, which cost him the game and sealed it, was the costliest error.

The Colts' apparent preference for distributing the ball negatively impacts Pittman's fantasy potential. For the upcoming game against the Washington Commanders, he will be a WR2.
