The length of the Dallas Cowboys' playoff run this year is uncertain, but we know Mike McCarthy's postseason track record over his long career in the NFL. The 59-year-old has a 10-9 playoff record as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys.
In nine of his 13 years as Green Bay coach, McCarthy's team made the playoffs. Eight of those postseason spots were earned in consecutive seasons.
Despite all of his accomplishments, McCarthy only ever captured one Super Bowl when the Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 during the 2010 campaign. McCarthy's overall playoff record in Green Bay was 10-8.

The Dallas Cowboys acquired the Pittsburgh native in 2020, and in his second season in charge, his team made the playoffs. The team's 23-17 wildcard defeat to the San Francisco 49ers last season, which brought his total playoff record to 10-9, is undoubtedly still fresh in the minds of Dallas fans.
Will Mike McCarthy stay in Dallas beyond this season?
McCarthy informed Dallas' supporters that he thinks he is still the best coach to break the Cowboys' dry spell after that heartbreaking defeat to the Niners last season.
It is logical to assume that McCarthy's playoff success, including a Super Bowl victory and four visits to the NFC Championship Game while coaching the Green Bay Packers, played a role in his selection by the Cowboys. Although the team's supporters have lofty aspirations, a coach has yet to lead two teams to the Super Bowl.
The Cowboys have won 24 games in the regular season with Mike McCarthy in the past two years. Only the Kansas City Chiefs have more victories. The seasoned coach has surpassed Bill Cowher, Sean Payton, and Joe Gibbs to move up to 20th place in NFL history in victories.
Having lost to the Buccaneers in the first game of the season and quarterback Dak Prescott picking up a thumb injury, the Cowboys' season appeared to be going in the wrong direction. However, they followed that loss with a 4-1 run with second-string quarterback Cooper Rush and secured a postseason spot with three games to play in the regular season.
Mike McCarthy has done enough to obtain a fourth year, especially considering that Jason Garrett, McCarthy's predecessor, went 24-24 in his first three years, never making the postseason.
Still, Mike McCarthy's dismissal from the Green Bay Packers was hastened by postseason failures, which will make for a compelling narrative if the Cowboys encounter yet another obstacle this year.
