Mike Tirico's exploits in sportscasting

Tirico graduated from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and quickly made his way into the professional world as a sideline reporter for a Syracuse television station.

Tirico began working for ESPN in 1991, initially serving as a SportsCenter presenter before becoming an ESPN newscaster full-time. Play-by-play duties for collegiate basketball and football starting in 1997 and the NBA starting in 2002 gave him further exposure. In addition, from 1997 to 2015, he covered golf competitions for ABC and ESPN, laying the groundwork for his upcoming job as the broadcaster of the U.S. Open.

To get the chance to cover the Olympics, NFL, golf, horse racing, and other high-profile sporting events, Mike Tirico accepted an offer to join NBC Sports in 2016. In February 2017, he was named the Olympics' primetime anchor on NBC, and about 18 months later, he took over as presenter for Football Night in America's studio.

While still demonstrating his worth to NBC, Tirico has worked alongside Dan Patrick on a radio show, Al Michaels in a booth for NFL broadcasts, and Bob Costas for Olympic coverage.
