New England Patriots is a professional American football team which is based in the Greater Boston area and it is one of the most famous teams in the NFL. The New England Patriots are also one of the biggest and oldest teams in the NFL, the Franchise was founded in 1959 as the Boston Patriots. The Patriots play their home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. In 1963 in a game against the Buffalo Bills they won their first playoff game. After the NFL and AFL merged in 1970 the Patriots changed their name from Boston Patriots to Bay State Patriots. But the NFL rejected the name and in 1971 they announced that they would change its geographical name to New England.

In Super Bowl XX they faced the Chicago Bears and in Super Bowl XXXI they faced the Green Bay Packers. The Patriots won three Super Bowls in four seasons (In Super Bowl XXXVI which was played at Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans they defeated the St. Louis Rams. In Super Bowl XXXVIII which was played at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas they defeated the Carolina Panthers. In Super Bowl XXXIX which was played at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles). The Patriots hold the record for most Super Bowl wins with 6 wins, 11 appearances, and 5 losses. As of 2022, the Patriots are the second most valuable sports team in the world.

Why did the New England Patriots decide to change from the Pat Patriot logo?

The New England Patriots changed the Pat Patrick logo in 1993 because the Pat Patriot logo was very detailed and they were looking for a logo which is more modern. The Pat Patriot logo was similar to other logos used by sports teams, such as the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins. So they wanted a logo that was more unique and memorable. They introduced a more simplified logo known as the “Flying Elvis”.
