The 2024 NFL preseason concluded with the New England Patriots visiting the Washington Commanders in a nationally televised showdown.
Those expecting a shootout between rookies Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels from the start had to set themselves up for disappointment, as Daniels was rested in favor of Jeff Driskel, while Maye initially sat behind returning veteran Jacoby Brissett.
Ultimately, the hosts mounted a comeback for a 20-10 win to avoid an "imperfect" record.

New England Patriots vs Washington Commanders summary from preseason Week 3
The first quarter was shaping up to be a very slow affair until the final minute when Drake Maye found Kevin Harris for an 18-yard touchdown. The first big moment actually came from the Commanders' defense when defensive end KJ Henry exploited miscommunication between Patriots guards Sidy Sow and Layden Robinson to sack Jacoby Brissett, who hurt his shoulder and had to be withdrawn.
The scoreline did not change until the third quarter when Cade York finally put the Commanders on the board with a 34-yard field goal. Almost six minutes later, however, Chad Ryland responded with a 38-yarder.
The Commanders began the fourth quarter with another field goal by York. They finally took the lead with a nine-yard touchdown run by Michael Wiley, before sealing the deal with a touchdown catch by Martavis Bryant, who was looking to complete his comeback from a long suspension that ended only in the middle of last season.
