The New England Patriots have undergone a difficult first season without future Hall of Famer Bill Belichick. The Patriots enter Week 17 with a 3-12 record, and they're much closer to a lottery pick rather than a playoff berth.

Hence, their game against the Los Angeles Chargers is one of pride rather than them competing for a favorable matchup in January.

Before the Week 17 matchup, let's examine the injury updates of some of the Patriots' key players.

New England Patriots Week 17 injury report

JaMycal Hasty's injury update

According to the New England Patriots website, JaMycal Hasty enters Week 17 without an injury designation. The running back started the week on the injury report due to a lingering ankle issue.

However, he appeared to be a full participant in every training session during the lead-up to the game. Hence, the veteran running back will likely feature against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Cole Strange's injury update

According to CBS News, Cole Strange is set to be active for the New England Patriots for the first time this season. The guard suffered a torn patellar tendon in December 2023 and has been on a slow recovery trail.

Strange was a limited participant in every training session leading up to the game against the Chargers. Hence, New England Patriots fans will hope that the offensive lineman can contribute in some capacity on his return to the Gridiron. However, Jerod Mayo will likely use him in more of a backup role for the rest of the season.

Kyle Dugger's injury update

According to CBS Sports, Kyle Dugger is questionable for his side's game in Week 17. The safety is dealing with ankle and quad injuries ahead of his side's matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dugger has played with an injured ankle for the past five games and left it all on the Gridiron in each one of them. It's likely that he'll be available for his team's penultimate game of the season.

Marcus Jones' injury update

According to CBS Sports, Marcus Jones will not play against the Los Angeles Chargers. The versatile defensive back is dealing with a hip injury, and this will be the second straight game he'll be missing.

The report states that Jones likely picked up the injury in the game against the Denver Broncos in Week 15. Jones couldn't partake in a single practice session leading to the Week 17 game. Hence, he was unlikely to be rushed back to the Gridiron.

The Patriots will use backup cornerback Alex Austin against the Chargers. He's been the team's slot corner in the games Jones has missed.
