New York Jets OTAs Day 2 review

The New York Jets opened their OTAs to the media today, and thus we have more to talk about regarding player attendance, injury status, and performance. Image: Eric Allen (@eallenjets), New York Jets.

Jets Offensive Line Sees Setback - Right Guard Willie Colon needs to have his knee scoped. Knee injuries are very serious for any lineman, but especially a veteran player.

Rex on timetable for Colon’s return: “Safe to say, it’s going to be awhile.”

The Jets really can’t afford to have Colon gone for too long, as the depth chart proceeding the vet is very unproven in the likes of converted defensive tackle William Campbell and how am I still here’ Caleb Schlauderaff.

Rex says Aboushi has looked pretty good at guard during the first two days of OTAs. #Jets

Aboushi is a 2013, fifth round selection, who played tackle in college.

Calvin Pryor a No-Show, Not of Concern

Pryor is experiencing mouth soreness, in needing to get his wisdom teeth removed. (He will be having them removed next week.) I’m sure the vets will have some jokes for him, re: trash talk.

Turning the Corner?

While limited in the physicality of the game, so far, third round draftee CB Dexter McDougle has made an impression on the front office. In his post-practice presser, Ryan said that McDougle has been “impressive” and that he won’t “let you catch a ball in walkthroughs.” That shows some heart right there.

CB Ras-I Dowling, a former second round selection by the Patriots, also received positive recognition—this time in the form of reports from media members at Florham Park.

The Jets will take any and every surprise contribution from one of the thinner positions on the roster, on paper.

Vick Probably Wants You to Stop Thinking He Can ‘Beat Out’ Geno

…But when asked point blank if he thinks it’s an open competition, Vick replied: “Nah it’s not an open competition.” #jets

Don’t think Vick is angry, etc, at idea it’s Geno’s job to lose. He knew that coming in. I think he’s tiring of “open comp” characterization

Notes

- RB Chris Johnson has been confirmed as a no-go throughout OTAs.

- WR David Nelson sat out with illness.

- Eric Decker looked nice, cause nice things are nice.
