The Battle of New York came again on Saturday, as the Jets and Giants met at MetLife Stadium for their annual preseason matchup. In an offensively dreary game defined by field goals, Gang Green would win 10-6.
Aaron Rodgers did not play for the Jets, as head coach Robert Saleh opted to conserve him for the regular season. Adrian Martinez started in his stead. For the Giants, Tommy DeVito, who had become a national craze late in the 2023 season, was back under center.

Jets RB Israel Abanikanda then opened the second quarter with a monstrous 45-yard touchdown run:
The Giants finally joined the scoreboard within the last two minutes of the first half via a 43-yard field goal by Jude McAtamney.
No scoring plays occurred in the third quarter, and it remained that way until McAtamney struck again early in the fourth, this time from 23 yards.

None of the three quarterbacks who played the game breached 100 passing yards, with Adrian Martinez coming the closest, going just one short in 12 completions. Tommy DeVito, who played the entire sixty minutes, completed 10 of 19 attempts for 74 yards.
The best offensive player was undoubtedly Israel Abanikanda, who rushed nine times for 83 yards and scored the game’s only touchdown. Xazavian Valladay led all receivers with 62 yards from six catches.
The defensive star of the night was Takkarist McKinley, who sacked DeVito thrice. Leonard Taylor III and Braiden McGregor also had one full sack each, with the former also splitting another with Zaire Barnes.
Big Blue’s offense was very anemic by comparison, best exemplified by Dante Miller managing only 45 yards from 14 carries. Still, their defense also played well, with Tomon Fox and Benton Whitley having one full sack each (the latter also split another with Jordon Riley).
