The Omaha World-Herald adds that Jones's former high school coach claimed carbon monoxide poisoning is believed to be the cause of death, as there was a generator in the 1996 Super Bowl champion's house.
His former coach, Jo Dusatko, revealed that Calvin Jones was using the generator in his basement after the furnace in his house went out.
The news surprised the football world and people were quick to react. The Nebraska Husker's official X (formerly Twitter) account announced the news while sharing their support for the Jones family.

Former Calvin Jones teammate called out Nebraska over treatment for late running back
While most comments regarding this tragic news were positive, not everybody took the news well. For instance, Calvin Jones's former teammate Vershan Jackson criticized how Nebraska had treated his friend after he left the program. Jackson learned about the news while he was live on the air with 93.7 The Ticket.
“Where’s Calvin Jones? I didn’t see Calvin Jones at a game,” Jackson said, per FanSided. “How come Calvin hasn’t been at the game coach?”
“Has Calvin been back at the university to go speak to the running backs? I’m just wondering,” he asked.
More fans reacted to the Jones news, showing that he was underappreciated despite posing traits that made him a menace on the field.
