2023 NFL Trade Deadline: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reveals plans to keep Dallas in contention

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is planning to be active at the trade deadline.

The NFL Trade Deadline is set for Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. ET, so teams have one more game to see if they are playoff contenders.

One team that will be making phone calls before the deadline is the Dallas Cowboys. Speaking on 1053 The Fan, Jones made it clear he believes Dallas has a very good roster and will be looking to add to it before the deadline.

“I would really extend to improve our team right now, because I think we have a team that’s a contender.”

The news from Jerry Jones is very different than what has been reported by the Dallas Cowboys as of late. NFL reporter Jay Glazer said recently that he felt like the Cowboys aren't going to make any big trades, while Jeremy Fowler wrote in his ESPN article that he doesn't expect Dallas to be buyers.

"The Cowboys are not expected to be major movers at the deadline, barring surprise. They are content with the roster as currently constructed," Fowler wrote.

But, perhaps something has changed in the last few days, as Jerry Jones has made it clear he wants to add to his roster.

Jones added that Dallas will not be the ones to initiate any trades, stating that any discussion will have to be initiated by the other side.

If the Dallas Cowboys make a move, it likely be on the defensive side of the ball.

Dallas has placed cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and C.J. Goodwin on injured reserve, as well as linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.

Although many expect the Cowboys to go and add a cornerback, Dallas has been rumored to be in the mix for Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry.

NFL analyst Rich Eisen believes Henry going to the Cowboys makes a lot of sense as he adds a bigger body to the backfield, which is what Dallas has done in recent years with Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott.

As of right now, the Cowboys have yet to make a trade. But Jones is hopeful his team will add at least one impact player to help improve Dallas' odds of winning the Super Bowl.

Dallas is currently +1000 to win the Super Bowl, which is the fifth-best odds.
