The Chicago Bears have officially started to interview prospective candidates for their head coach job. The franchise is looking to get it right at the position to help the development of quarterback Caleb Williams, a mission that Matt Eberflus couldn't get it right.
General manager Ryan Poles has led the search, and he's toying with the idea of a surprising hire for the position. During a press conference on Tuesday following the end of the season, Poles hinted that many surprising names would get at least the chance to interview for the Chicago job.
“There’s going to be some names that you don’t expect that are going to surprise you, because we’re digging deeper than we ever have before.”

With the box of surprises opened, many people involved in the league started to vent about what those surprises from the Bears could be. Former superstar guard Kyle Long, who spent most of his career with the team, started a discussion about who the fans wanted to see as a new coach. And he shot his shot with his preferred name:
He later admitted that it might not even be an attainable hire, but since this was nothing more than a Twitter discussion, there was also nothing wrong with stating his preference.
McVay, the Los Angeles Rams coach, even if he was interested in the job, isn't allowed to talk with any NFL franchise. The Rams will play in the NFC playoffs, with a Monday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round.
Which candidates have the Chicago Bears interviewed?
Even though they fired Matt Eberflus weeks before the end of the season, Chicago only started the interview process on Wednesday, with former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel getting the opportunity to present his case for the Bears' front office.
On Monday, it was reported that the franchise asked the Dallas Cowboys for permission to interview Mike McCarthy, their current head coach whose contract expires at the end of this season. However, the Cowboys denied this permission, a move that indicates that they are looking to retain his services.
