Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts' absence following concussion in last week’s narrow loss to the Washington Commanders has become a point of discussion ahead of their clash against the Dallas Cowboys.
Although the Eagles have already secured a postseason berth, their division title hopes rest on this weekend’s clash.
Amid this critical situation, three-time Super Bowl champion and Fox Sports analyst Mark Schlereth weighed in. Praising Hurts’ dual-threat abilities and comparing him to Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson, he called Jalen "one of those very valuable assets."
"Like what Lamar does for the running game in Baltimore—he's so good at essentially, you know, faking and having that threat as a runner that nobody on the defensive side of the ball constricts," Schlereth said. "So you're really creating opportunities for cutbacks, for your running back to hit wide-open holes and get to the second level."

Drawing parallels to the Ravens QB, the analyst added:
"Jalen Hurts provides a lot of that same thing that Lamar provides because of his threat as a running quarterback. He is one of those very valuable assets. It is one of those situations where, with your backup quarterback, he doesn’t provide that. Now, we can really focus in and not take the quarterback bootleg or whatever as a threat. We're really going to focus on the running back."
Without Hurts, opponents can zero in on limiting the run game. As the Eagles prepare for Friday’s final practice, Hurts’ participation or absence will heavily influence game-day plans.
Injury expert shared doubts about Jalen Hurts’ availability
Dr. Jesse Morse, a certified Family & Sports Medicine physician is deeming Eagles QB Jalen Hurts' return within 48 hours highly unlikely. Taking to Injury Expertz, Dr. Morse said:
"I do not expect him to play this week. Kenny Pickett who also has a rib injury will probably take over. He has not practiced this week. They only have one practice left. So it’s not possible for him to clear the protocol.”
Adding to the Eagles' woes, backup QB Kenny Pickett is also dealing with a rib injury sustained in the same game. Now, with few alternatives on hand, the Eagles signed quarterback Ian Book to their practice squad in a bid to bolster their depth.
