Brandon Aiyuk finds himself in a difficult spot with his contract situation ahead of the 2024 NFL season. After increasing his production in each year with the San Francisco 49ers, he spent the offseason seeking an extension after his previous contract expired.
The 49ers declined to give Aiyuk what he was looking for and instead have the star wide receiver currently playing out the final year of his rookie contract. He was reportedly unhappy with this outcome and was rumored to be seeking a potential trade, but currently remains in San Francisco.
NFL insider Dianna Russini recently discussed the situation during an episode of the Scoop City podcast. She gave an update on where the negotiations currently stand.

"You saw Brandon, all over social media dapping up GM John Lynch and dapping up Kyle Shanahan. It looked to me like a deal was done. He was really happy, but nothing is done. Why was he in a happy mood that day?"
Russini responded:
"They get along really well, apparently, right? Because I know that I'm not sure if I would be dapping up the GM that's not giving me the things I need, and gave me an offer of $26 million when I think I'm valued at way over that, at a number over 30.
"That was the original offer that really turned this into a sour situation, where now they're trying to come to a better number. Obviously, come off the 26. And we'll see how this pan out, but still no news. TS - (9:58)"
Brandon Aiyuk was reportedly frustrated at the leaked 49ers offer, but is apparently still negotiating a new deal with the team. Russini explained that they are willing to come up a little bit from the initial offer of $26 million, but it's unclear if they are willing to meet what Aiyuk is asking for, whatever that number may be.
Brandon Aiyuk has limited options amid 49ers contract negotiations
Former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi recently outlined three possible paths for Brandon Aiyuk to resolve his current contract situation during an episode of the Pat McAfee Show. He said that Aiyuk either needs to take the current offer on the table, play out the final year of his contract, or just retire.
Other options obviously exist, including holding out, continuing negotiations, and demanding a trade, but Lombardi's point was that he is running out of time before Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. Kickoff is a little over a month away, so the clock is ticking.
