49ers’ door ‘cracked open’ for Tom Brady, NFL Insider claims

As the 2022 season comes to a close in the next two weeks, Tom Brady is still contemplating his next moves. He could pursue a variety of options, but what about the San Francisco 49ers?

Despite appearing in the NFC Championship, one NFL insider saw a chance for the team to land the most accomplished quarterback of all time.

Here's how Albert Breer put it on the Herd with Colin Cowherd:

"The Niners sort of left that door cracked open [unless] Purdy throws for like 350 yards this week and 350 yards in the Super Bowl... So do I think there's a great chance of Brady landing in San Francisco? No. Do I think under certain circumstances that door be open? Sure."

He continued, explaining that adding Brady wouldn't equal cutting ties with Purdy:

"And I think the advantage that the Niners have right now is they have Purdy on such a cheap contract, and they have Trey Lance on such an affordable contract that there's a way logistically for them to keep everybody in house and bring in Brady if they want to."

Lastly, he explained that the next game or two could have a great influence on how things go:

"I think like you could see a scenario where Brady could be in the mix a month, a couple of months from now... I think could boil down to how the next couple of weeks play out."

Unless the Buccaneers make a move to franchise tag the quarterback in February, No. 12 will become a free agent. As it stands, he could join a number of teams in March. However, the quarterback also has options away from football. Last year, he didn't have that luxury in the way he has now.

This time last year, he had nothing concrete to fall back on after moving on from the sport. Of course, he had the ability to drum up something, and was rumored to have attempted to with the Dolphins, but needed to start from scratch. Now, he has a ten-year contract calling games for FOX to lean into as soon as he steps away from the game.

However, will he decide that he's not done just yet? If there's unfinished business, analysts are outlining the Las Vegas Raiders as another top destination in addition to the San Francisco 49ers.
