San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa has been a well-known supporter of Donald Trump. He has tweeted about him before, and he has done so again in the wake of the shocking assassination attempt against the former US President.
Over the weekend, merchandise retailer 49ers Spin shared an Instagram Story of the three-time Pro Bowler embracing the 2024 Republican presidential candidate:
And the jokes immediately began:

More reactions can be seen below:
"Broken leg in September incoming," one predicted.
"Why people love this clown so much?" another asked.
"It’s why you don’t look up to athletes, even on your team," another's lesson went.
As it has turned out, Bosa is not the only NFL player supporting Trump. He was recently joined by fellow defensive end Maxx Crosby, former wide receiver Antonio Brown and New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Nick Bosa's history of controversial posts, explained
It cannot be denied that on the field, Nick Bosa is a phenomenal talent. After an ACL tear ended his 2020-21 season early, he has since exploded to become one of the league's best defensive players, having at least 10.5 sacks from 2021 to 2023, being named Defensive Player of the Year and reaching the conference title game each time.
However, it seems such performance cannot be separated from his off-field persona. Before the 2019 draft, many of his alleged past posts and likes across his social media accounts resurfaced, showing various controversial beliefs:
- Criticizing Beyonce and the film Black Panther
- Supporting Donald Trump
- Insulting Michael Sam, the first openly gay NFL draftee
- Blaming high crime rates on immigrants
- Mocking former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick
Seeing that he had a high chance of ending up in San Francisco (a city well-known for its significant gay population), Nick Bosa eventually deleted them. He would apologize for the controversy in his introductory press conference:
"I definitely didn't intend for that to be the case. I think me being here is even better for me as a person, because I don't think there's anywhere that you could really be in that would help you grow as much as this one will. I'm going to be surrounded with people of all different kinds, so I'm going to grow as a person ... I'm gonna learn a lot of new things."
Nevertheless, the pro-Trump notions continued, as he was still dating fellow Trump supporter Jenna Berman. The two eventually split in 2022.
