Despite plenty of struggle at times in the past 20 years, many teams would happily switch places with the San Francisco 49ers. Since 2000, the team has missed the playoffs 14 times. However, they've also been to two Super Bowls and four conference championships.
That said, for the older 49ers fanbase that largely grew up watching Joe Montana and Steve Young during the 1980s and 1990s, there is no doubt that the modern franchise is a step back from the height of the twilight of the millenium.
Super 70s Sports reminded fans of this when they took to Twitter to ask about whether Steve Young and Joe Montana sharing a roster at the same time was the most overpowered quarterback roster in NFL history. The majority of fans seemed to agree. Here's a look at what they said in response:

Between Montana and Young, the 49ers went to five Super Bowls and won all five. During the two eras, the team missed the playoffs just twice. Montana went 4-0 in the Big Game and, before Patrick Mahomes entered the equation, many compared Tom Brady to Montana before anyone else.
While still a franchise quarterback, Young took a step back from his predecessor in the Super Bowl column, winning just one championship in his career. That said, in addition, he reached four conference championships. Montana threw for 244 touchdowns and 123 interceptions with the franchise. Meanwhile, Young threw for 221 touchdowns and 86 interceptions.
What was the best quarterback room of all-time aside from 49ers' Montana-Young?
Aside from Young and Montana, many pointed to the Green Bay Packers of the mid 2000s, when quarterback Brett Favre was still slinging the rock while Aaron Rodgers watched. Favre won a Super Bowl with the franchise in 1996 and Rodgers won a Lombardi in 2010.
Favre threw for 442 touchdowns and 286 interceptions while No. 12 threw for 475 touchdowns and 105 interceptions. Rodgers went 147-75-1 in his time with the franchise while No. 4 went 160-93-1. The debate about which quarterback is better still continues today and, with No. 12 joining the New York Jets, the discussion will be ongoing in 2023, unlike the Montana-Young debate.
Other top quarterback rooms in the NFL going back to 2015 could be Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo with the Patriots, Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes, and Russell Wilson and Geno Smith as a dark horse.
